what the hell am i supposed to do to kill mason? i can't find anything!

Yeah I have the same problem. The 'hint' said you have to start a fire, but you can't throw him to the blue things, you can't catch his fireballs or redirect them, and there's nothing in the room... This is really annoying since I beat the rest of the game without a guide, but I don't have the slightest idea what I'm supposed to be doing at this point...

for the first sequence, catch his fireballs then throw them into the blue rods.

You would catch his fireballs with V, correct?

To catch projectiles with the default control setup, I would press c to bring up my hand, then when the enemy fires, press r to enter slow mode, which would catch the projectile when it is close and then click the left mouse button to fire it. I have a hard time doing it with bullets but rockets and fireballs were easy for me. The first time I did it was accidental while fighting a rocket guy. I think you can also do it by entering slow mode and then bringing your hand up when the projectile is close.

I managed to beat him, even though I don't know what I supposedly did differently than before. Then I immediately got stuck in the next scene again.

I'm supposed to run away from the explosion, but I get instakilled when I jump over the first pit even though nothing hits me, and this happens evey time... What the hell are you supposed to do now, and what is killing me?

I have to say I'm not enjoying this endgame sequence at all...

I don't know, I just ran from the explosion and was fine. I got hit by some falling debris at a later section but just waited a second for it to pass on my next attempt. Here's another video if you want to see how I did it. (I didn't understand catching bullets until about 15 minutes into the fight so you might want to skip ahead a bit)
