Yea, Linux is so full featured it has to run a Windows emulator to do the actual gaming...
There are also native Linux ports for games. Check out the catalog of Feral and Aspyr for example. This is a great gate to get more and more people on Linux first and foremost.
After the user percentage is adequate on Linux, rising all the time and even rapid now thanks to Valve, then we can deal with open source / native issues.
I stopped believing the "Linux is the future" long long ago. I remember the same discussions like 20 years in the past and still Linux desktop numbers are what ? one percent ? two ?
Not to mention that Windows 10 is so fast and stable these days that the reasons to switch to Linux, especially if you are a gamer are pretty minor. It's just not worth the effort..
Linux is prevalent now everywhere, only the desktop area remains to be grasped. Why would Valve and so many others do what has happened is such a short period of time, if they would not firmly see Linux as the de facto standard of the future also in gaming?
Do not despair thinking 20 years ago this and 10 years ago that. This is now, and Linux future is brighter than even also on desktop / gaming.

+1 for GNU/Linux release
"People who love freedom" ? This isn't Schindler's List or Braveheart... it is a OS... it needs to boot fast, be stable and run my applications and games.. nothing more... W10 works very well and that is the reason many people, myself included, see little point in doing the effort of changing...
W10 has caused people to switch to Linux more than ever, even more so than when Vista came out.
There are several fundamental reasons for it. One is: user is no longer in control at all. Not in the slightest (was one ever in Spydows?).
Linux indeed has matured and Valve, among so many others as said, see it as the de facto standard for everything in not so distant future.
Im not going to argue with a person named "LinuxDarudeIRC" who uses words as "Spydows" on this topic. I got a feeling your viewpoint is biased ;) I fully understand you think Linux is a tool of gods creation and that's good for you. The honest truth is that a whole lot of people are very happy with W10 and see little to no reason whatsoever to switch their OS.
Which is why the Steam survey has had Linux DROPPING in share over the past year.
Sorry buddy, your wishful thinking isn't applying to the real world. People who don't like Windows 10 are finding ways to stay on 7, not switching to a completely new and foreign to them OS.
... and in the times of so called BID data and othe ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is extremally sad ..
Moki, let's assume that You know the basics of the math. Additionally let's assume that total number of stem users increase from 2000000 to 3000000. In the sam time GNU/Linux users share has dropped from 1 % to 0.85%.
1 % from 2000000 is equal 20000
0.85% from 3000000 is equal 25500
(0.0085*3000000) - (0.01*2000000) = 5500 new GNU/Linux users.
You can manipulate numbers as you like.
So he states facts, and you try to rebuke him by pulling numbers out of your <bleep>? And then you go on to state the obvious, that "numbers can be manipulated".
Your counterpoint to his argument is that "well there may be 1 million new Windows users and relativly speaking, yes, Linux went down in market share.. BUT let's not talk about that, you do know that in the end we did have 5500 new linux users right?
I mean, I am sure there are better ways to defend Linux, but damn, this was not how to do it.
