The new graphics are about style and immersion. Personally, I prefer old graphics for MI:SE and new graphics for MI2:SE, because they did a better job of Guybrush character art and animation in general in MI2:SE.
Really? So when I beat the game using the new graphics style, shouldnt feel myself like a cheater? (i wont use a function "highlight objects"
I would say that even though I played the game on old graphics first, I prefer the new ones. Guybrush does look very strange in the first game, but he sort of does in the old one too! So while game play is just about the same between the old and new other than having an easier time at seeing some objects (That you should be able to find instead of wasting time mouse hunting for them), I believe you will find the modern game more comfortable to play and not so archaic. The only reason I see to play the old one is for nostalgia or if you are a purest.
I _hate_ character design in MI1:SE. Just plain hate. Cool colorful and detailed backdrops, very cool water ripple effects, but stupidly looking characters, especially Guybrush himself.
I used a fan-made patch to make a ScummVM talkie from the first MI remake, with old graphics but with voices, and deleted the MI1:SE completely, while keeping the resulting talkie on my HDD.
It's good that the character design was changed much in MI2:SE.
Other than that if you watch some screenshot comparison, you can see character faces, sky, moon, stars, objects and most of these elements had realistic size and proportions. Not that I don't like the remaster, but I feel it is not really in the spirit of the original game. Nonetheless the original is so good, that it is not really possible to completly mess the game's spirit.
Exactly, the remastered version looks to bland, to flat and to cartoonish. Pixels were rough, sparked your imagination and (in a weird way) more real.. but as I said, the old graphics + voice acting = great!
To bad only monkey2 allows old + voice... I hoped they would update the first to also allow it following this option in the second but they never did..
There's a thing for MI1 called "The Secret of Monkey Island Ultimate Talkie Edition":
http://gratissaugen.de/ultimatetalkies/monkey1.html
It allows to play MI1 with old graphics but with the voices from the remake.
