How to Use the Atlas?
Maybe I missed a tutorial or something, but I'm not sure I'm using the atlas correctly. I input, say, iron ore into the atlas, and a map or lighted areas show up, but I'm not exactly sure if I'm understanding it correctly. Do the lighted areas mean that there is iron ore located there? Is there another function of the atlas to show the altitude and location of said iron ore vein? Or does it just show the general location of where it can be found, like a map, just not showing the altitude you would have to dig to and the exact location? Sorry for the newbie question, just a little confused.

From my experience it is showing indeed a heatmap, so the brighter the spot the more concentrated the input and tracked resrouce is. Though it doesn't tell you in what layer of the planet it is. So it is still a lot of hammering and mining and hope to be lucky to hit the veign and not just dig one square next to it.

So I just stopped using it for tracking purpose as it is to inaccurate to be of any use. Though I use the atlas as a minimap still.

EDIT: could be though that I am wrong and the color is showing the depth of where to look for it. So will have to see if someone has figured this one out already.

Ah, okay. It's as I thought then, just a general map showing concentrations and such. Thanks for the quick reply!

Edit: I wondered that too actually, if the brighter it is the deeper you may have to dig or vice versa. Would be nice to have a light shed on this bit of mystery, lol.

It's not deeper, but the concentration. The actual spot / lightness just signifies that there are resources in the vicinity from the previous time (like a day before or so). Certain resources do spawn in certain bands, but iron can be found anywhere pretty much - you might find bigger veins lower down though). I have some co-ords on Gravidias Te if you want the best spot (it's a really bright lump of iron ;)
