Online Multiplayer

Looking to play with a friend overseas. We tried playing Lego Ninjago through Remote Play but the lag was unplayable. I found this one on sale and have heard some say it has traditional online multiplayer (which should run smoother as it won't need to stream), I've also heard some say that it doesn't and steam doesn't seem clear on the tags. If we both buy and run this, will we be able to play online without using the Remote Play?

Not on steam, I'm pretty sure the Xbox 360/Xbox One version has online co-op.
