I just want to play with a controller

So the game is good, and I use a PS4 Dualshock which the game recognizes... But every time I press a button, the multiplayer activates and I find myself controlling two players on one controller! Help! Is there any way I can format my controller so that it only controls the first player, or do I have to use the keyboard to play Single Player?

Configure Player 1 as a Joystick and player 2 as a keyboard

AmmoGod is right. I had the same problem with Lego Clone Wars, and that was the only way to fix it

I tried the measure, but it didn't work for me :( booted the game up in big picture mode and still had an awkwardly synchronized multiplayer

LEGO games does't work so well with PS Joysticks. Try a generic or a Xbox Joystick on.

Are you using the keyboard at all after starting the game? There is a message at the beginning to push a button to select a controller. Also go into controls, and see what the player 1 and player 2 controls are set as, and that your controller only has controls set for player 1.

There is controller configuration in big picture mode that can be used to map the DS4 to be a regular direct input controller, which might help. I'm not sure if it will matter on a Mac though. I don't have a DS4 but I am pretty sure you do not want to have PS4 configuration support turned on, because it is for configuring special behavior like a steam controller. Just use whatever shows up at the bottom when the controller is plugged in where it tells you to press a button in a certain position on the controller and maps it to the correct one. That might already be done by steam though since it is such a popular controller.

The Game Works with Xbox 360 and Xbox one Pads so if u configure your Controller right and configure the Game right for that, like disabling the Keyboard so u can play with Controller it should work flawlessly

I was able to get my Xbox one wireless controller and Xbox 360 wired controller to work by turning the "Steam Input Pre-Game Setting" off. I think when steam tries to change the inputs from the controllers, it changes it to something the game cant understand. It seems like the game is set up to get the raw input from the controllers, not a processed input from steam. Hope this helps!

Unfortunatley Mac OS doesn't have great controller support. There are some programs that you can use to map the controller to different buttons but these programs can tend to be janky at times. I would recommend getting a cheap windows laptop of some kind to play the game as Windows nativley supports xbox 360, xbox one, and xbox series x controllers.

open big picture mode on steam. settings (the gear), controller settings. choose the controller of your choise, in my case I hace PlayStation Configuration Support. ten that should do it for ya. started working for me after I did that.

I'm quite certain this game is like many older PC ports where only Xbox/Xinput gamepads are fully supported, and Dinput/DualShock/Nintendo aren't at all or partially. I use Xbox Series gamepad and it was recognized and controlled P1 right away.

Bingo, don't know why people aren't aware of such a fact, and why people are so stubborn to insist using Nintendo and PlayStation gamepads that don't freaking work even after all the workarounds they attempt

Like hell, you can easily just buy a third party Xbox gamepad for a fraction of what it costs to buy a new first party, and it'll still work just as good

I use a Logitech controller and it works. I just have to make sure I only touch the gamepad because if you touch the mouse or keyboard the game thinks it's co-op with one person on the keyboard and one on the gamepad. Took me a while to figure that out.

i'm pretty sure Logitech controllers use Xinput
