I just want to play with a controller
So the game is good, and I use a PS4 Dualshock which the game recognizes... But every time I press a button, the multiplayer activates and I find myself controlling two players on one controller! Help! Is there any way I can format my controller so that it only controls the first player, or do I have to use the keyboard to play Single Player?

Have you tried configuring player 2's controls as PC, so it'll tab player 2 in when you hit your keyboard instead?

This game is fully controller supported though? There shouldn't be a need, it might be a good troubleshoot though if nothing else seems to work.

Yeah, I tried this a few times and unfortunately it automatically defaulted to the controller as soon as I used it again.

My OS is Mac right now, eventually I'll make a transition to PC but there isn't a specific time frame as to when that will happen

I'm connecting mine through a USB/Micro-USB cable. If you're using a PS4 controller, the same cable you use to charge your controller is adequate to use for Steam. The system should recognize it as soon as you connect the controller to the USB port. If that's not the case or you've already tried it, I'm sorry I don't know what else to do.

Options > Configure Controls > Change Device

Make sure you're entering the game's main menu with the controller

Confirm your usb cable isn't coming loose and then reconnecting, resulting in player 2 coming in as controls reset

or (things that probably won't work but may be worth the try)
If it isn't a hassle, disconnect your keyboard whilst playing

Hooking up another controller that you will leave idle (just drop in and drop out then leave it)

Check in game that the setting hadn't changed (you have to confirm your changes which is annoying)

Make sure you're not knocking your mouse

I'm using DS4 with a duel shock 4 controller and the game registers a second player. Is this the issue people are having?

did you connect to full-screen mode before going into the game?

Yes, at least that's the issue I'm having. Any action I press on the controller (attack, toggle, special, jump) activates P2 and I start controlling synchronized characters... It's irritating and gets in the way of gameplay

I tried that and unfortunately ran into the same problem

I wasn't able to try disconnecting my keyboard (I use a laptop for now) or connect another controller, but I tried your other suggestions and unfortunately they didn't work. I appreciate the help though!

I'm very sorry to hear none of these troubleshoots solved your issue. My only last thinkable thing would be to verify the game's cache via properties..

boot up steam through big picture mode and select the controller through there
