Any actual ending?!
We have Venus's Clif-hanger, we have Mercury's Clif-hanger.
Also: secret Flash-back, for emelard keys.
If that's all - this is not a content for a complete game! And there is no "Early Access" tag on store page, to wonder if there will be a proper ending later.

the game is around 10 hours long if you take your time to get everything and don't go from point A to B, the ending with Venus, is heavily foreshadowed even in the tips, the second part with Mercury is an epilogue as the achievement said, for the second game, so I dont know what else do you want.

the ending is clearly a cliffhanger ending setting stuff for the second game, if you played the game correctly and collected all the keys, that second part with Mercury makes so much sense, I really didn't expect that until it happen and I love it.

you already answer your own question, so, wait for the second game¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lol. Done it 100% and visit most easter locations in under 5 hours on chill mode.
UPD: also was 1.5 hour AFK, kuz' ordering pizza in the middle of play-trough.

The story is intentionally designed to be vague as the game itself focuses on what you are experiencing rather then why, and is meant to be a mystery to dissect. The sequel will probably (and hopefully) have definitive answers and a more present story. It's okay not to like that, but its the way it is.

I enjoy the idea of the sequel being a total contrast to the first. Even just the fact Mercury has his levels in the daytime.

Maybe Karb just really liked how it looked but a lot of things in Psychopomp have sort of a symmetry to it.
