Why is the Steam version of this game so different from the PS2 version I remember?

I remember playing this game on the PS2 back when it was brand new. I'm not complaining about the changes, but genuinely curious why everything looks so different on the Steam version.

For instance, I noticed as soon as I started the first mission where you play as Vader that the whole Kashyyyk level looked different. I'm pretty sure this level was set at night in the PS2 version I played years ago and now it's daytime on the Steam version.

I noticed lots of other differences as I continued playing. Why is this version of the game so different from the PS2 I played years ago?

PS2 version was made by a different developer. And since PS2 couldn't support Ronin engine(The engine which was used in the PS3,360 and PC versions) they chose to make that version with a different engine and with somewhat different gameplay and levels.

The story was written by the team that made the PS3 version.The PS2 version followed the same story with some small changes.

Kinda similar to the way that:
1.Harry Potter 1-3 games were different games on PC and PS2/Xbox/GC and PS1.
2.Spider-Man 2 was a different game on PC compared to PS2 version.
3.PoP Forgotten Sands was a different game on Wii compared to PS3 and 360 versions.
4.Splinter Cell 1-4 were different games on different platforms.
etc.

I've only played a little, but it seems to be a very close match to the 360 version so far.
