What we got in exchange for new bugs and a removed feature were higher resolutions out of the box (higher resolutions were already achievable prior to the Aspyr update, but previously required a solution like UniWS plus widescreen mods) and Steam achievements (the Aspyr update on GOG didn't even include Galaxy achievements). The fog bug and action menu issue in the Aspyr version are at least fixable, but EAX support can't be restored in the Aspyr version, and fixing the erratic lightsaber hilt textures issue in the Aspyr version will cause the game to crash at certain points, which also renders lightsaber hilt mods like Schematic Lightsaber Mod[deadlystream.com], TSL Default Replacement Hilt Megapack[deadlystream.com], etc essentially unusable with the bugged Aspyr version, unless you want to tediously keep switching back and forth in swkotor2.ini between "Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1" (to fix the lightsaber hilt textures erraticism in the Aspyr version) and "DisableVertexBufferObjects=1" (to proceed past sections that crash the Aspyr version).
I will credit Aspyr with allowing owners to still download the "legacypc"/1.0b (i.e., original) version of KOTOR 2, as well as not delisting Battlefront I & II Classic. I think Aspyr has historically done a better job of 1:1 porting games (which used to be their core business) rather than remastering them. That being said, perhaps they've gotten better at remastering since the Battlefront Classic Collection, as remastering seems to be the focus of their business now.
Did using the Game Bar in Windows not work? You may need to link your Steam account to your Microsoft account via the Game Bar or Xbox App. https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/32420/view/3426703545290857169
The GFWL client couldn't handle 2FA (if you have 2FA enabled on your Microsoft account); I doubt using the Game Bar with this specific title inherits that problem. Previously you could get around the 2FA problem by setting up an App Password[support.microsoft.com] on your Microsoft account for the GFWL client (or you could turn off 2FA for your Microsoft account, which I wouldn't advise). Now that the Steam version of STAR WARS: The Clone Wars - Republic Heroes has been patched, I don't think setting up an App Password (or, alternatively, turning off 2FA for your Microsoft account) is necessary. I haven't played the game after the 2022 November patch was applied, so I can't verify. [Edit: I redownloaded the game and can verify that creating an App Password or turning off 2FA are unnecessary post-patch. When I first launched the patched game, I was prompted to install an update for Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant 6.5, but after updating and restarting, the game worked fine.]
This guide suggests that it is pretty seamless.

If that doesn't work, there are guides on how to bypass GFWL.
