You can beg for voice chat being enabled by default all you want. I am 100% glad it is not. If you enable voice chat you get people doing things like blowing air horns into their microphone just to screw with everyone in the session.
I also do not want GTA suddenly picking up audio from a microphone I happened to have plugged into my computer and start broadcasting any audio it hears to the whole farking session without me knowing it. Text chat has to be invoked by a player; audio chat is farking awful and most of us leave it disabled for very good reasons.
This discussion wouldn't even exist if text chat wasn't removed.
pixels are serious business!
"Legacy had text chat, Enhanced doesn't - boo hoo, they removed it!" Thing is, they didn't nothing like that. Look around the Steam forums and you'll find out, that stuff isn't as it seems. In fact R* ported Enhanced from E&E on consoles. Most of the code is console spaghetti, yes, they implemented PC keybinds, hooray, but they didn't remove text chat, the hard fact is, they didn't implement it in Enhanced yet. Dataminers found burried out in the Updates.cfl file a line, that reads "Text chat hasn't been yet added to gen9" and there's a commentary to that line, that reads "it will be added soon". So yea, all the good people whining about evil R* removing chat are wrong. They try to figure out, how to implement it yet, since it's clearly ported over from a version, that didn't have text chat (like consoles for example).
This isn't an anti-grief discussion cry about being griefing or what's griefing or not, it's about the voice chat being on, and people crying that they have the option to turn it off if they don't like it.
My examples are very relevant. I agree I wish text chat wasn't removed. Regardless, voice chat is awful and so many people broadcast unintentionally without realizing it. The last thing I want to hear when joining GTA is some asphole's kid crying in the background because he's too stupid to use push to talk.
You literally don't know what you are talking about. Every time you try to do any kind of sale, Cockstar broadcasts your activity to the WHOLE SESSION and tells EVERYONE to come try to stop you. They literally designed the game to get people to screw with each other in the hopes that people get frustrated and go buy shark cards instead of trying to earn money legitimately.
You know what, let's just disable any communication all together, text and all. Let's also delete steam discussions because I don't want to hear the crying child responses to a suggestion that would solve communication issues.
