Text chat?

Text chat seems to be non-existent, usually i cant vc later in the evening cause i'd prefer not to annoy those around me, that being said, i mostly use text chat later at night, the 60 character phone text message with an abnormally long cooldown doesn't really resolve this issue either, and is quite tedious to use over and over.

Hope rockstar fixes this.

Further edited: I got the information i needed, some of you guys really need an actual therapist and not the steam forums to vent. I apologize that this is such a bad vibe for some of you, but for people who are taking it this personal, it's just a game, the world will keep turning. Hope you all have a better day.

It wouldn't even help people's feelings, they're censoring voice chat.
They could easily censor text chat, easier than voice and just have left it in.

I think it's probably an Microsoft/Sony request to keep console/pc parity for multiplayer.

Text chat was removed because of the spammers that were modding and advertising free ♥♥♥♥, money levels etc... they would blanket the chat with a bot repeats every few seconds. It ruined the game and opened up free cheating nonsense the spoiled everthing. Thats why they got rid of it.

GTA V, like several GTA's before it, was Console 1st
Developed on a PC yes, but for Console.
It is a wee bit hard to develop on a console.

Then was backported to PC later.

GTA Enhanced was an update for newer Consoles some time ago
which was just now backported to the PC code branch.

The Consoles had no text chat.
Someone obviously kinda forgot when doing the PC backport, so they will have to add it in and do an update.

Trust me, you can whisper and be heard, and i really wish that was not true cause some kid was whispering to someone else in his room not knowing his mic was hot and it was like i really wanna UNHEAR this, i dont think i can eat peas again :(

Depending on the person but if the child for example seemed friendly I'd normally message them to tell them there mics open in the lobby chat felt bad for them

in my opinion its a bad idea from Rockstar to remove the textchat. It was a nice feature and we want it back!

At the same time when you even ask a ~full lobby of players something ...help or whatever.... noone even really responds.... like fr...... how are people supposed to talk directly to each other in a lobby... i can understand if you play with a group of friends and have a discord group... but constantly checking it is kinda ehh....
Not to mention if you can't or don't want to use a mic and earphones ....some people might be deaf and that doesn't help...
This was a legit stupid move but ehh.... Now it's more realistic i guess since the Online MC is 'mute'...... but whatever.... stupid move regardless.... R* own idiotic move since they can't battle chat spammers or mod menu users....

Guess i'll continue to play the legacy edition. Chat was the only way for me communicate online. I don't like talking to strangers.
