well you'd be wrong. original ps3/xbox 360 release required no internet connection
When GTA V first released on September 17, 2013, it only included the single-player story mode. No internet connection was required
Grand Theft Auto Online was officially launched as a separate multiplayer mode on October 1, 2013, about two weeks after the game's initial release. Players needed an internet connection to access it, and Rockstar released patches to enable the online mode. So while GTA Online was always intended as part of GTA V, it was not available on day one.
