Random lock up
So i don't know if anyone else is having this issue, but sometimes when playing GTA5 online, my game will sometimes just freeze, stay froze then suddenly the whole PC just freezes as well. unable to tab out, mouse doesn't move, nothing but i can still hear the sounds fine. Sometimes in discord the call will continue as normal but i did have one instance where everything froze and no one heard me. I'm not sure if its because ill sometimes share my screen, but i haven't noticed a or tried at not trying to do that. I had this happen maybe 4 times total since i moved from Legacy too enhanced. Not sure if its because the new ♥♥♥♥♥♥ anti cheat called BattlEYE or something else but it seems too ONLY happen with GTA5. any other game works just fine. So.. is it just me or have other's had this issue as well?

I have a AMD 7900 XTX, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, and 64 GB RAM

and i don't play with maximum settings. Also have steam games booting from a different SSD rather than a main SSD. [same with my other games that doesn't freeze]

What sort of FPS do you get before it freezes?

this is what chatgpt says:

First, check event viewer (Windows Logs > System) for any critical errors right after a freeze. Could be a GPU driver timeout (TDR). Try rolling back or updating your AMD drivers—sometimes the latest isn't the greatest with GTA.

Also, since you're running games off a separate SSD, make sure that drive isn't having hiccups. Run a check with chkdsk /f in Command Prompt just to rule out file system issues.

You could also try disabling hardware acceleration in Discord and see if that changes anything. GTA V is notoriously finicky with overlays and external processes.

i have it capped in the GPU around 70 and the game i didnt realize i think at 60. Not sure if the 2 conflict with one another now that im just now thinking about it

EDIT: and event viewer only shows critical kernel which is me havign too force reboot, so im not seeing anything GPU related. Drivers are updated to most recent, but the old one i had said it wasn't higher enough for GTA

Hello! I have a similar problem running a 7900 XT, I got a lot more system freezes, tried so many different fixes, freezes still persist. Any chance you found a solution to this?

I actually did find my solution, but im not sure if it will work for you or anyone else but ill share. I recently discovered that the most recent Graphics card driver was the issue, so i went back to an older version. if your curious, and are using AMD Software adrenaline, im using the current version of "24.12.1" and since then i haven't had any issues. I should have updated the post but im sure its lost in the forums by now. Not sure if they fixed this issue in the most recent releases. but im not gonna find out until i KNOW i need too update.

Thank you for the response. I will try to switch to the driver version you mentioned, but I'm already using an older version (23.12.1), the freezes keep happening no matter what driver version I use, I also tried the minimal type of driver install, nothing seems to make a difference.

as mentioned from previous posts, if your also getting stuttering that causes random freezing, the FPS "might" cause issues too, but this is just a very low chance. you could maybe try to lower the in game FPS cap to be at least 120 or lower. you could do the same with the driver FPS settings, or have it disabled entirely, its up to you which you use or if you use both.
