On star wars dark forces it won't let me open any doors.

E Button is for interacting with switches and doors, if a door can't be opened with the E button, first try to be as close as possible to it, most times I can't open a door, is because I'm not close enough to it, even tough I'm a palm away from it, just be face to face with the door. If it still doesn't work, than that door opens from a switch, do the same as the door, be right up in it's face, and repeat the E button just to be safe. If none of that works, than it's something wrong with your game, try verifying the cache files.

Considering he said he can't open any doors, he probably is on the first level, and the first few doors are opened by themselves or by a switch nearby, I don't think there is a key until maybe the end of the level. Also if you don't have the key, trying to open the door where the key fits, a message says that you need a key.

If your not already using it, try downloading DarkXL, this may solve your problem.

Um... the first door can't just be opened. This infuriated me the first time I played the game, but there's a PANEL you have to press next to the door to open that first one. Most of the time, doors open as you'd expect, but that first big door in the Imperial Base needs to be opened with the panel right next to it.
