STAR WARS™ Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith™

Why is MotS so underrated and forgotten?
I thought it was pretty damn cool. I mean, I prefered the live action cutscenes of DFII, but I guess budget problems in the sequel (I don't care, I thought the live-action ones were pretty dank). But why is Mysteries of the Sith so forgotten? I admit Outcast is still my favourite of the series, and the fact they got Billy Dee in it instantly makes it one of my favourite SW games.

But yeah... what makes this game so forgotten?

considering its an expansion, only those that really liked JK got into it. But i thought MOTS was better then JK in both single and multiplayer, so much fun playing on the old Internet Gaming Zone.

MotS is alright, in gameplay or multiplayer terms it may even be better. I especially liked the last few levels where it required you to think only with your powers and lightsaber, disabling everything else. But... I just feel that DFII was just a better experience.

For example, what is the deal with the audio? It's just so low quality compared to DFII. Also, the quality of the cutscenes in the story are absymal. It would have been fantastic had they brought back Jason Court (Kyle Katarn actor from DFII) and some new actors to do live action cutscenes. If they'd done those two things and polished a few things up, I think MotS would definitely overtake DFII then.

I agree, the live-action cutscenes were what really sold me on DFII. I just wish later Star Wars games had them for their cutscenes honestly, but I understand they'd probably be more expensive(?) that way. And those last few levels scared the hell out of me when I was younger. The statues coming to life, and the really dark atmosphere (I never thought atmospheres in pre-2000 games could be that good honestly) were just phenominal. I just wish MotS got more recognition is all.

Those last few level's atmosphere scared me as well when I was younger. Especially that Sith Tiger; that was literally the worst enemy to fight. Even today it sometimes takes me by surprise with an incredibly powerful hit while fighting it which just jump-scares me, as well as that ape / ogre thing on the pirate level where you have to retrieve the Holocron.

Personally, JK:Jedi Outcast is the earliest of the line that I can play because it's gameplay/graphics haven't aged past playability compared to modern games.

Something like original Dark Forces (DF1 had a fan-modernization which is fairly playable) is just -ugh- in comparison. Mysteries of the Sith itself might be more playable with simply twice (or thrice) the polygon count that it currently has and then it'd be good for the next half-century, however.

There was/is a mod for upping polygon count for Dark Forces II. No idea if it's still around.

Plus the Academy mod for Dark Forces 1 is dead, so... such a shame.
