STAR WARS™ Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II

How does the light sabre work (Yun fight)
I've been looking for some hints on light sabre combat for a while, to no avail.

Since I'm at the Yun fight right now, I wonder how this thing works. So far I found out that doing nothing kind of blocks enemy light sabre attacks. Sometimes, that is. Other times they hit me.
Most frustrating thing is that often pressing the left mouse button to attack does nothing. My dude just keeps holding the damn thing as if it's a popsicle.

So any hints on how to beat Yun are very appreciated, cause that guy keeps kicking my ass.

Is there any kind of tactic to this fight, other than (trying to) spam attacks in hopes he goes down before I do?

Thx.

You probably think I'm trolling here, but what people usually do is run around while swinging the lightsaber wildly (push both mouse buttons down at once). It works more often than not.
About blocking, I recall it only works reliably against weapon shots. Just face the attacker and he automatically blocks them.
I find it awesome that you are playing this game for the first time. One of my all-time favorites. Protoman is correct, that is what people do even in multiplayer during the MSN Gaming Zone Days. I have not played this game in years except for a tiny bit here (currently looking for a solution to the game lacking graphics card support). Anyway, I came in here to add that you actually have more control over the lightsaber than it might first appear. There is the primary and secondary attacks but the camera angle (use 3rd) and movement also affect the blade, strafing you will perform a sideways slice for example, backing up or running forward something else each. I'm not sure but for the primary there might even be something different for short or long press. You'll get past this guy, the hardest one is Maw if I remember right. Get those secret areas.
Thanks for the replies folks. I managed to beat the game now. Yeah, running around (with force speed) hacking away at the enemy jedis did the trick. The last two jedis gave me kind of a headache, so I made use of quicksave during the fights which saved me a lot of frustration.
