Any idea how i can make my own plugins/mods?

i tried searching for the location of the current fireworks but i had no luck. but i did find a map called plugins which makes me think there is a way to implement custom items. maybe im wrong but can someone tell me where the fireworks are stored then so i can duplicate and edit them.
