"Please insert Disk #1 to install DirectX."
Hey all,

I got this game off the Humble Bundle a few weeks ago and just got around to installing it a few days ago... Unfortunately, every time I press the "Start Game" button, it prompts me to update my DirectX installation... Which then tells me I have to have disk 1 to install it. I've tried everything from starting the game directly from the Europa.exe file, running it as admin + compatibility mode, "cracked" launchers, and even downloading the old 8.1 version of DirectX off the internet and installing it directly - all to no avail. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks!

Actually bro, maybe you think it sucks, but this game was a huge part of my childhood. So yeah, I would like to play it again. Please don't say anything if you're not going to be helpful.

I like the game, keeping in mind it is 13 years old. It runs fine. The only slight issue i get occasionally is it freezes for a split second sometimes during an explosion but it doesn't really affect the game much unless it causes you to crash into the surface.
I love how you can use a wireless 360 controller , makes combat fun and fast.

Yeah haha, I only ever had it for the PS2, but it was so much fun haha

Btw if any of y'all could help me figure out how to install DirectPlay, that'd be much appreciated. I really would like to play this game again :)

I had the same problem. I got the prompt to install DirectPlay by going to the options menu and clicking 'Configure Options'. Haven't tried launching it yet though.

I was able to install DirectPlay with an older game I had the disc for, and it let me launch Starfighter afterwards. :)

Yet you play Evolve, Call of Duty, and has 19 hours on this game so it must not be that bad.

To enable and install DirectPlay in Windows 8/8.1 (no disk needed) to play this game, go to the CONTROL PANEL and select PROGRAMS AND FEATURES.

On the left side of the window, click on TURN WINDOWS FEATURES ON OR OFF.

A small window will open up with a list. Scroll down to LEGACY COMPONENTS and click the PLUS sign to the left of it. This should expose the DIRECTPLAY option below it.

Click on the check box next to DIRECTPLAY to ENABLE it.

Allow it some time to install DIRECTPLAY, then click OK when all is done.

Star Wars Starfighter SHOULD now RUN ok. At least it did for me!
