DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE

DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE

Why is Akira making Gohan so pathetic?
How can they make him go from the way he was in the bottom left to what he is now in Fukkatsu no F?

He looks like his age regressed. Why do this to one of the most complex characters besides Vegeta and Trunks? Looks like a reject Rock Lee. Why isn't he able to even maintain the mass he put on throughout the whole series? Regardless of not training? Hes half Saiyan and at one point was even stronger than Goku at SSJ3. He was probably the single strongest character in DBZ by the end of the series without fusion or absorption.

Do you agree with what Akiras doing with Gohan? Making him the average Joe? Theres no balance, which is what I expected Akira would invision for Gohan having so much pressure to follow higher learning from his mom and so much pressure to train from his father; that he would invision him balanced. Hes turning into a push over. I've not seen Fukkatsu no F but since all the big news I've heard of it since it was announced is the new Super Saiyan forms and Friezas golden form-- I don't have high hopes for him being nothing more than fodder. Don't spoil it if I'm wrong. But how do you feel about the direction Gohan is being taken?

This is gonna sound like trolling but I don't mean it that way; ...tbh dude I don't think a large portion of the DBZ fanbase actually gives a damn about Gohan anymore.

i still like Gohan. but he has been one of the more disappointing characters in the series for reason's the op has stated. That's just Toriyama not knowing what he wanted to do with Gohan, he originally wanted to make Gohan the main character after the Cell saga but desided against it. and i think that's kinda where that happened.

Gohan never has been interested in fighting, that's kind of the whole point of the character. Goku being the horrible father we all know tried to make him what he never wanted to be but in the end Gohan followed the way he wanted.

Toriyama is simply following the path he started for this character since around the Cell games. (which is by the way for me when DB overall quality really starts to drop)

This.

Every time when Gohan actually did something it was pretty much the "last resort or everything's going to ♥♥♥♥" type of situation. He does have the potential to be the most badass uber dude of the universe, as seen in boo saga, but neither him nor his somewhat overprotective(scary) mother actually want that. No wonder he looses his edge later on.

And for the sake of mentioning it, Gokus deserves the award for "crappiest father in the universe", just saying.....

Yeah, I think if you like Gohan - and he is a likeable character - it's not because he's a total badass. Dude just wants to chill out and not fight, so yeah he's not gonna be as tough as the guys that do.
Jin Royale Apr 20, 2015 @ 12:14am
Okay, addendum to my post, the above post reminded me, Mystic Gohan was totally friggin' badass and awesome.

You guys keep forgetting the part of balance. I mean at this point you should be aware that ♥♥♥♥ can hit the fan at any time being a character in the world of Dragonball. No training at all whatsoever? Its kinda funny cause him fighting is mostly what got him to meet Videl.

Balance kinda sucks in DBZ, though. I mean if anything DBZ's shown that balance makes you too weak and Saiyans are the baddest mans on the planet. I mean you could argue that yeah, they're showing balance in Gohan...and it makes him suck at fighting. Interesting character dynamic, yes; but that's why now Gohan's big storylines are with his family and social cues and not fighting cuz...well, he's not as good as it as someone that devotes themselves to it entirely - like Goku or Vegeta.

TL;DR Gohan sucks cuz he specced strike and ki blasts both

Reminds me of after the cell games when he actually asks to stay dead rather than to go back and take care of his family.

Cause you know, who cares right? Just your wife and son lol. (sons should i say, as chi chi was pregnant at this point)

Again you've missed the point. The way Gohan is now does not show balance. He has wasted away being a family man and somehow looks as young as Goten did in GT, if not younger.

No, I think I get you. I just don't know what you want him to do. "HNNGH I KINDA LIKE TO FIGHT BUT I ALSO KINDA LIKE TO HAVE A FAMILY!!!" There's not really a way you can...portray that without just showing both sides now and again. I mean I guess you could if Gohan had a family AND he was just as good as Goku and Vegeta? But then Gohan's just good at everything, which...isn't really balance so much as it is 'good at everything'.

If you're just mad that Gohan looks like a 14 year old that looks like he wants to grab a frappucino at Starbuck's after his shift at Office Depot then...uh, yeah, that sucks? But yeah, you know how DBZ is. If they had Gohan maintain his physique in training and still balance a family life, and then he wasn't cannon fodder, then Goku and Vegeta wouldn't have anything to do.

Someone's got to be the jobber.

Yeah. Remember how surpsied he was that he has a second son who's pretty much a spitting image of him? And then remeber they have the kai version of mobile phones....Not hard to guess how many times he "called home" over the years despite being able to do that pretty much always.

Team Four Star's protrayal of him isn't that far off tbh.

Thats like saying you can't weight train and have a family-- which is untrue. People who bodybuild arent just entirely engulfed by that. They have balance in their life. Its not bench press 30 reps every hour every day. It doesnt feel like Gohan is stepping towards a better place as a character. It feels like regression.

I heard that ,despite the look, Gohan is actually pretty badass in the film. But I'll just have to wait till the movie is avalible to see for myself. I hope its true. Because I always liked Gohan.

Overall there's a simle reason why Gohan gets downplayed: plot convenience.
If he would still be as uber as in the buu saga, which is the official "end" of canon DB and the base of BoG and "Frieza Saga II", they wouldn't have a chance to introduce the blue hair god because Gohan would kick ass and call it a day.
So they make everyone suck again to make sure that the blue palette swap looks awesome and powerful.
