Why is Voice acting so bad.

They used Frieza and Gohans Kai voice in this WTF? They sound horrible. Why didn't they get the Original voices in this game like all the old games.

The production in some parts of the game seem really lazy. I honestly don't think the creators and company behind Xenoverse thought it was going to be this huge. I'm interested if based on the gigantic popularity this game has picked up, if they will go more in depth and expand everything if there is a sequel.

Linda Young was the best english Frieza in opinion. I really feel and believe that Frieza was evil and a super narcissist with Linda. I just don’t buy Chris Ayres Frieza I can detect that it’s just an actor saying lines and I don’t really feel the evil. Plus Chris Ayres Freiza borders on mono tone sometimes so I can’t hear what he is saying. Linda young is the best Frieza.
As for Gohan I think these to clips speak for themselves which one is the best.

DBZ Kai Gohan SSJ 2 is fail compared to the original English dub.

Aside from Linda Young making Freeza sound like a chain smoking ♥♥♥♥♥♥, Ayres does a fantastic job. Nadolny's Gohan sounds just as bad, although her Goku was actually pretty good. Also Nozawa's voice doesn't sound her age and hardly her gender. She sounds fairly androgenic in her role as Goku, and certainly not aged. It's typically ignorant American children that make these statements.

Well the original Funimation Engilish dub was finished nearly a decade ago. In that time the folks who performed the voices have either:

1: Retired
2: Left Funimation
3: Sadly passed on

NamcoBandai are going to use the Voice Actors that the company who provides the localization for the series provides. So Funimation provided the English Dub actors they happen to have.

While I agree that in some cases another dub actor can do a better job capturing the character then the original, they can also end up being horrible. I personally think that the DBZ Kai Freiza English Dub VA is not as good as the original.

As for Japanese vs English VA...well I agree sometimes the Japanese Dub actors tend to capture the character better. Maybe they had a better director in some cases. In others the writting on the English Dub can not be saved by even a skilled VA (Remember "Believe it!!").

Goku's English VA has been played by Sean Schemmel since 1999. He has done voices in pretty much every series that Funimation owns the localization rights to, but Goku is by far his most famous/ most important role. At this point replacing him would be like Dan Castellaneta not playing Homer Simpson. Not saying that someone COULDN'T do a better job, but the change in voices would be so drastic that it would be jarring to some.

Then you get Goku sounding like an old japanese woman.

Because I appreciate original content. The japanese dub is what reflects said characters personality. The ''old japanese woman'' voice is what fits Goku's silly and childish personality. Not just that, I find that japanese dub has more particular details than the English dub.

For example, I find their screams to be more powerful, yet emotional. This goes for the beginning of the series up to SSJ2 Gohan. Have you ever heard Goku's scream the first time he went SSJ? Or Gohan's scream when he went SSJ2? You even hear a faint oozaru roar in the background to amplify said emotion and power, that they're beasts inside, releasing their ultimate power.

The english dub just makes everything look as heroic as possible. While it certainly has good songs (SSJ3 theme being my fav), the japanese make it more emotional while it's still powerful.

The transformation scene from SSJ2 Gohan is my best example. Let me show you:

Pay attention when Gohan screams out of emotion/anger. Hear that oozaru scream. How can you not find this amazing.


I am no weeaboo, but I do appreciate content for it's original meaning. Whenever it's Japanese or not.

People have used the word Weeb so much as an ad hominem to shut down arguments, that at this point it has started becoming an ironic word that only says something about the person saying it.

Like I said, one of the worst. He's just a bad Corlett impression mixed with a wannabe pro-wrestler voice. I also fail to see the point in including Goku's child voices.

Also I don't see how Sean Schemmel is worse than the big green dub... In fact I'd argue he's the best Goku voice in all the dubs, I certainly like him better than the Japanese one.

Gohan's Kai voice is ANNOYING. No emotion, half-assed screams, all for the sake of him sounding "younger". All I hear is Luffy. His original Funimation voice was much better, ESPECIALLY as kid Goku. The original actor is still around too, so I don't know why they love Colleen to much. They brought back Android 18s original voice for after they changed it in Kai, so I dont know what's up.

As for Freiza... The original Funimation actor died... I think Chris Ayres is a better performance, but for the sake of nostaliga... The old one is just gone now, so there's not much choice on that matter.
