DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE
How do I effectively dodge?
The prologue makes it look so easy then you start actually playing and it's like your character has a mental disability. Blocking occurs well after you've pressed the button and when I try to vanish behind the enemy I just reappear in front of them just in time to get punched in the face and then combo juggled.

Is there a certain fight I should practice on to get the hang of it without getting completely dominated?

Can I learn a technique that works better? Right now Vegeta is my teacher but he hasn't given me anything in forever and there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to when they actually give you new missions or abilities.

This game is fun but it has these small rage inducing problems.

You don't, the game is bugged.
The mentor thing- If you go to player data and mvoe to the next page it shows how your training is going, the bar will turn more and more green until maxed at the top.

The blocking- I use After image a lot to counter evasive skills since I'm melee and have to be close range. Takes no stamina or Ki.

If you are having problems with the vanish (like everyone is since it's a bug) just get the hang of doing if you see them leading in a certain direction. it will place you out of the combo. OR use your evasive skill.
Honestly sometimes vanish works and sometimes it doesn't. It's really up to luck right now.
Vanishing is bugged. It works every once in a while.

You need to keep in mind that the AI can use Evasive Moves in cases where the player character can not. So just because you see an AI use it to counter everything you toss at it does not mean you will be able to do the same.

Also if you bring your master (in your case Vegeta) with you on PQ their respect bar goes up a bit faster.

it cost stamina?

Yes it takes a bubble/bar of stamina, good luck with your eyesight goals keeping track of that and the action on the screen at the same time though
How do you effectively reverse though?
Also, unsure if this is true or not, but I noticed it's easier to get skills from NPCs by unlocking more Z-ranks. I have completed two, working on my third (Vegeta) and seem to be getting them done by just offline missions, not sure though

Left Button + Y, when the person fighting you gets deep. It's really handy.
