DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE

DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE

So what exactly is canon for Dragon Ball?
I was always of the opinion that if it was not in the original manga, then it was not canon. Is this the correct line of thinking or not?

up to fukkatsu no F is canon, I'm not even sure if post buu saga is canon or not, especially with BoG saying goku had the power of a super saiyan god, and vegeta still thinking he could beat him

Technically even that is based on their thoughts and until Toriyama says who is or isn't canon I'm not going to believe anyone else especially if he designed certain movie characters.

In the end OP GT isn't canon and almost all the movies are "considered" non-canon but it really falls to you what you think is canon.

I can tell you that GT should not be considered canon as Akira Toriyama, the creator of the series, had nothing to do with its creation besides some rough character designs. The movies have various degrees of canon. Bardock, Father of Goku is considered canon while Broly: The legendary Super Saiyan is not. History of Trunks is considered canon. Etcetera.

In general anything related to GT is not canon. The movies its up to you to decide which are canon if any.

I might be a little forgetful of some things. I am barely aware of the manga involving Gine and her interaction with Bardock.

Toriyama needs outside help to make him remember things. Goku was never sent to Earth like Superman, yet that is considered canon. Bardock was never an SSJ, since the whole SSJ myth existed before a murder ball sent him back in time for Kami knows what reason. If Goku was given the Superman exodus, that makes the whole Bardock movie of 20 years, non-canon.

The big thing to remember, if Goku is the next Superman, that invalidates the entire manga storyline, since Goku was sent to Earth for different reasons, so everything that happened after is now not canon.

I think a lot of that has to do with the fact Toriyama has little to do with any of the movies or tv shows.

I liked GT. A lot. Binged it over the summer, and I think it was worth it. But yea, I think everything up to GT is canon, including the movies.

I disagree. The only movie I consider 100% canon is Battle of Gods, as Toriyama had much more to do with that movie than any other movie up to date.

That still leaves the manga, which I know very little about and is generally considered the real canon.

In the manga, Goku was said to have been sent to earth to kill all the humans, but failed to do so because he fell and hit his head. His adopted father said that before he hit is head, he was very agressive and mean.

The Garlic Jr. character crosses over into the series but I don't know if that was manga or not. Might be the one movie that is canon. I think a lot of the other movies conflict with the main story because characters seem out of place in a lot of them. For example, with the Turles movie, I have a problem thinking about when that would've happened. Before or after Namek? If before, then how are Yamcha and Tien alive, if after then how is Goku not SSJ?

Garlic Jr. was never in the manga. So he is most likely not canon.
