Master Roshi since he went all muscle-ly, otherwise let Krillin have his day and be the hero for once.

He beats everyone, as they are on the ground, he makes a speech, but while doing so, he runs of out golden juice, so turns back to his normal form. Just when it happens, Future Trunks arrives from the future, right behind him. Frieza hears something, turns to face his opponent and gets sliced. Again.

The whole lesson of the movie was:

No matter how powerful you are, you can still lose if you are dumb.
Gokus played around too much, he could have ran frieza over like a truck does a rabbit but he did not. The character flaw that whis has criticized on him before came into full effect.
He gave frieza the chance to make a last minut save by nuking the planet, an event he might just have survived. He can allegedly travel through space fine - something Goku and Vegeta can not.
Frieza would have won by clever use of all his tools.

But alas, Deus Ex Whis undoes this and spurs goku do actually fckn finnish the job at hand.

Buu should have killed him.

Vegeta should've killed Freeza and gotten his revenge. Sadly, Vegeta fans were squiged over again with a planet bust, Whis deaus ex machina, and Goku stealing the damn kill once again.

That's the sad part. Personally I would like Vegeta to have had the chance to have the climatic fight with Frieza we never got. It would be a chance to put to rest, with finality, his experiences with Frieza and his father. Knowing Vegeta, we could have had an awesome speech about how much he's changed, Frieza taunting he's become weak, and Vegeta's rejoiner, that he's simply moved on with his life, because ultimately Frieza just isn't that important, even to him. *cue blowing him away without even a named attack as one final insult*

But, what they did was actually really important from a charicter development standpoint. Goku's basically been static as a charicter since Cell saga ended. He had no where to go, no development to do... until the writers realized his remaining flaws had never been polished.

Like Leyline said, Goku's playing around, his unwillingness to kill when it is warrented, is his fatal weakness. Without this direct and abject lesson about the cost of his nievite/arrogance, Goku could never have come to the point his son had, that there are some beings that can't be reached with words, that will not stop until they are killed.

If Goku had let Vegeta kill Frieza at that point it would mean not accepting the lesson Whis was teaching him. Unfortunately this means Vegeta had to have his kill stolen.

What's intresting to me on another level is the fact that, having watched it 2 days ago, it's clear that Vegeta is on par with Goku, meaning even if Vegeta had been the only one there to fight him, Frieza would have lost.

Or he would have lost if Vegeta's arrogance and posturing didn't end up provoking the same situation of Frieza blowing up earth we saw. As Whis pointed out earlier, Vegeta wouldn't have been caught out by the sneak attack (oh god that is another can of worms I don't want to open here and now) but he would still have drawn it out too much at the end.

It's kinda sad actually, Frizea did nearly everything right and still lost anyway. We can all see his mistake, as pointed out, of attacking the moment he had his new form avalible to him. But he had two backup plans on hand. One that relied on his opponents weakness and another that relied on one of his advantages against his enemies. But Whis, a totally unexpected factor, cost him his victory in the end.

Frieza learned from his mistakes, but didn't change as a person, so he fell into the same trap that nearly killed him on Namik. All that power but no stamina.

It's amusing to me to think that another two months of training would have made the whole affair into a 'work together or you all die' situation for Goku and Vegeta.

So in the end, as much as I might wish we had an alternative, the writing required Goku to be the one to kill Frieza to cement that lesson they had set up earlier in the movie. :raven:
