DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE

How am I supposed to fight multiple enemies?
The game's controls and battle mechanics for the most part work like those of a 1-on-1 fighter - blocking, counters, combos and such. But the game will - in many instances - throw three or even four enemies at me at the same time. Well, what then? I can't pull off a single combo because I keep getting interrupted, I can't block from multiple directions and the AI will just "button-mash" and stun-lock me perpetually between the three opponents. I can use the "evasisve" skill which knocks them all back, but that does very little when it costs me three endurance bars while the AI can just block it or - worse - respond with infinite such moves of its own and kick my ass anyway.

Is there some trick to fighting multiple opponents that I'm not aware of? I mean, yeah, I can knock them away or evade them... For all of two seconds until they dogpile me again anyway. What am I missing?

Try take one of them far from the others and kill him fast as you can. Works for me

its usually a good idea to have a high level ultimate attack with you. Sometimes different ultimates may benefit you, like blue tornado or buster volcano.

Take your time, jump backwards, push them back one at a time.

I'm a little thankful that my first character is a saiyan ki blast specialist. On fights like these where you're overwhelmed, I pop Super Saiyan and go to town with Ultimates. I only spam Ultimates on these types of situations though.

I can't imagine myself trying to beat these fights with a non saiyan melee character. It's possible but I'll learn that on my 2nd character when I have more skills to choose from.

Hmm... So there are ways, just not really good ways. I... Don't really know what kind of character I have - a Majin with a little bit of everything, mostly Vegeta's skills. I definitely need an AoE Ultimate, but I can't see to find a decent one, unfortunately. Must grind Parallel Tasks more, eh? :)

This game is trickier than it first appears. The system offers a lot of options, I just wish there were some place I could test skills and swap them in and out without having to go through several loading screens just to try out one skill. Should probably look up what each of them do online. Must be a Wiki somewhere, or a Steam guide come to think of it.

I'm more pissed off that I can get chained by 5 Kame Hame Ha's without being able to move an inch. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Goku and Gohan are probably the best AI Team I've encountered, and that sickens me, because none of my AI allies are useful. I just wanna complete PQ 47, and unlock SSJ4 Goku already... :'(

I finished the game (story-campaign) yesterday with my lvl 43 human. There was this majin-stage (first 3 enemies - then 5 or 6) and the one were you have to fight cell, frieza and kid buu (+the other three). Both took me a little while but since my KI was slowly regenerating, i could keep dodging and pull of some ultimate once I recharged.
Yeah, it is probably one of the lamest strategies in the game but i can´t stress enough how much of a chore it is to have only one charslot until you finished the campaign... had to get it over with.

And i am totally with you on that training-place you were talking about. Why even put in that stupid town if you can´t do anything in it? Seriously, after 10+hours I am at a loss of words about this design-choice. Why can´t I even use skills in the town? Whats the damn point?

The only advice I can give you, is to start steam in offline mode or block the game through your firewall, so it can´t connect to the servers. You won´t be able to play online but its worth it if you have something mindnumbing to do (testing skills, grinding pq).

I actually found a somewhat reliable way to deal with mosh pit fights, thought it's a bit cheap. It comes down to abusing the Yamucha's Taioken skill to stun enemies dogpiling me, or else just dash away and hit them with super attacks. At this level, they seem to fill up quite quickly and Cell's Perfect Kamehameha deals pretty good chip damage, especially since the AI will just keep rushing me and never block out of some berserker's rage. Failing that, dodging seems to take SOME of the bite out of multi enemy fights since dodging a lot causes their attacks to miss some of the time - enough for me to pull away, at least.

What I will say is this - the DBX AI is ridiculously aggressive... Because it's allowed to cheat. All the Super Sayans seem to have permanent block enabled so they don't have to guard. Even if they do get hit, they tend to just spam "escape" skills. What this means is the AI is free to essentially "button mash" away at me constantly. Bizarrely, I'm tough enough by this point that they don't deal THAT much damage to me, but they nevertheless manage to interrupt me constantly, and stun-lock me constantly, and aggravate me constantly.

Seriously, this game's controls are NOT good for fighting multiple enemies. Tabbing to whatever's currently punching me in the back is a chore, since tab-targeting often picks a random enemy in the distance while SSJ Gohan is punching my non-existing kidneys. Maybe have the Block skill block towards the closest enemy in melee range? Maybe have the block cancel move work even if I'm not targeting the enemy whom I'm trying to block? Maybe get rid of target lock entirely and give me free mouse control of the camera, to attack whoever's closest to my centre-screen?

Let's just say that group fights seem doable at the moment, but they are not even remotely fun. One-on-one fights, by contrast, are amazingly cool. I still remember my epic fight with Vegeta for his final Master mission. DAMN that guy's tough. Tougher than Cell by a country mile!

@Malidictus: you should check out "Bid for power". It has similar controlls you describe. You can download it for free somewhere (Its an old Q3-mod). Its like the original to this game here. The controlls are way better and its more competitive. The graphics ain´t as good as xenoverse however and there are no rpg-elements.

practice running around a bit to separate them if you have team mates, if not , just dash and knock someone out of the way, while that one is flying switch focus to the other and grapple or do w/e.

It's tough at lower levels, but you will eventually get tougher if you pour your stats in the right area

haven´t played it for more than 10+years but I still remember it being the best Dragonball game and the controlls were very intuitive.
I didn´t know about esf. Only now took a look at youtube and it looks very similar to bid for power. looks good.
