Is Tri Beam an Ultimate attack gained from a Master? If so, the 'change' was likely the Z-Assist or such, where Ultimates gained from a Master randomly have their power boosted.

no the move itself says you can change it and if you over charge it you get stuned, at any rate im done with tein and the move sucked anyways, it was very short range and you have to use it then it puts you in a stance were you dont move then it changes some how then you fire it, i really wish the kiko and the kikoho were alot better.... also its cooler when your yelling KIKOHO into your hands rather than TRI BEAM HA XD
you cant actually charge it. it just delays the shot. the translation for this game is terrible. press the button once, then press it again to wait to fire it. you get stunned by using NEO tri beam, but thats an ultimate attack, and literally the worst one in the game too.

no it changes, i got it to do it once just once, green eletricty flows out of your hands and it deals more damage and goes much further and no you dont get stuned by neo tri beam because i used it alot draining all my ki with it and didnt get stuned

You can charge the Super Attack Tri-Beam. Example, I have Tri-Beam on X. I press X once and my character will stand in the Tri-Beam stance. My character will stay like this until I either shoot the Tri-Beam or cancel it with blocking. If I press X again I will shoot the Tri-Beam but if you HOLD X during the Tri-Beam stance you will CHARGE the move. It will start shooting out green electricity and eventually auto-fire. This deals more damage but leaves your character exhausted for a second. You cannot charge Neo Tri-Beam.
