Offline Mode not supported?

Finally able to play this great game and I'm enjoying it so far, but earlier today when Steam went offline for maintenence I decided to play a few shmups while waiting for it to come back online, Naturally, Raiden IV seemed like the kind of game that'd run in offline mode without problems, right? Wrong. The game refused to launch and wouldn't do so until Steam was back up and running again. I verified this myself by setting Steam to offline mode and the game would not run unless I set it back to online. Can I get somebody else to confirm if it happens for them as well?

If this is by design on the developers' part, please consider fixing it. The other shmups in my account do not require an online connection and if for some reason I can't get online (steam outages, location with no online access, etc.) I'd like to at least be able to play Raiden IV: Overkill in offline mode. As far as I know, the GOG version supposedly does not require an online connection.

Sadly, as of this typing there has been no new patches yet to address the problem. If you want to play offline (or have no choice in some circumstances), you might need to get the GOG version.
