The Book of Patterns & Audio Drama
I was quite pleased to see that this game is on Steam. I had a copy when I was a kid on 3.5in disks...

Anyway, something on some importance to the game is an book once included in the box, The Book of Patterns. The piece of documentation, not included in teh Steam version, acted for both flavor and function. Many of the drafts in the book were not in the game, such as Waterproofing, Blessing, Folding, and Twisting, however for the drafts in the game, the book was a tool for recording the drafts you would learn though playing, like Emptying, Night Vision, and Terror. The Book of Patterns does appear in the game, in Hechel's Tent, but is not obtainable or usable in the game. So for those of you interested in experiencing this aspect of the game:

I suggest taking the PDF and putting it in your local files as a supplement.

Another part of the game, not included was the Audio Drama, which was pretty much a prologue was to how things got to where they were at the start of the game. In my original version it was on a cassette. Anyway, it basically told the backstory of Bobbin's orgins, Lady Cigna, and why the imagry of swans is a reoccuring element. So for those of you also interested in this aspect of the game:

OK question, I downloaded the PDF but all the notes for the drafts are blank. Were they supposed to be pre-written or do you write them in yourself as you progress through the game?

In the original Book of Drafts, you wrote them in. There are a few drafts that were already filled in, but these were largely for flavor. Some drafts were static, like Transcend. Others like Dye (green) and Spin to Gold were mutable. It also assisted on the hardest level, where you essentially need to cast drafts by ear.

Thanks a bunch!! I guess I'll just have to write them down as I discover them.

Most welcome. It's sad these things weren't included as extras. The Book of Drafts is kind of important, but you could just always use a notebook, I suppose, but then there's the loss of flavor.

The steam STORE PAGE has the manual with the list of drafts, but I don't think it has any other info in it, and I didn't see a way to download it to actually use. I also refuse to read it until I replay it, all organic nostalgia hahaha!

I think the twisting is in the game, at the beginning, right? I keep a notepad txt file open, file name matching save file name, on my second screen because many of the spells change between playthroughs. A cellphone or tablet is just as good, but so is paper and pen.

I started playing this game again after a few years but I can't find the book of drafts in the store. How do I get it? Do I just type in "loom book of drafts" or something?

its just a hyperlink on a list on the right side of the store page, says game manual, but the drafts vary so it's just a printable version of the original manual that you would write the spells down in. I dual screen so I just keep a notepad file for it now. I'm sure the original scrolls could be imported into an editor where you could type the chord in manually in any font for fun

Oh I see! Thanks. Btw I heard that there are a number of drafts that appear in the book but not in the game, or they're not acessable maybe? Is that true?

Yeah. There were a few that were in the book. I don't recall Tongues, Waterproofing, Folding, or Warmth. Loom was supposed to be the first game in a franchise. LucasArts never continued with this game though.

I noticed the URL for the Book of Patterns was out of date. It's been updated to a working copy. Again it's really more for flavor than actual use. The actual book was printed on cardstock so erasing didn't damage the pages much.

LucasArts never continued with this game though. They might have had plans to have other drafts later, but that's just a guess. It's safe to assume that the unused drafts are just flavor embelishments.

Hi. I have the original Book of Paterns from LOOM CD game. It is in perfect condition. Where can that be sold? I can't find a similar one for sale to use as a basis.
