How to run the EGA version of Loom through Steam
Many people, including the game's creator, prefer the EGA version to this VGA version.

If you've purchased this and would like to run the EGA version through Steam, it is possible.

- Download and install Loom through Steam
- Download ScummVM from the ScummVM website and install (or copy) into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\LOOM\
- Download Loom (Floppy DOS EGA) from archive.org or another trusted abandonware site and unzip to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\LOOM\loom-ega\
- Run ScummVM.exe and click "Add Game.."
- Highlight the loom-ega directory and click "Choose.."
- Enter "loom-ega" into the ID field and click OK.
- Exit ScummVM
- Delete Loom.exe from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\LOOM\
- Rename ScummVM.exe to Loom.exe in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\LOOM\
- Right click Loom in your Steam Library and choose Properties
- Click on Set Launch Options
- Enter the following: -f -p "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\loom\loom-ega" loom-ega
- Click OK.

You should now be able to seemlessly run the EGA version of Loom through Steam, just as you would the VGA version.

Once you're in the game, F5 is the key to get to the ScummVM menu in order to save/load/quit.

Yeah thanks! It would have been nice to have some options included in this release. I mean...why should i BUY this, if i have so many option with scummVM?

Different language, graphic, filter&scaling options and sound options(PC speaker, midi, general midi and so on - i played this game on a 286 with pc speaker first). Everything is missing...what a letdown...even for 5 bucks :(

Thanks for the info though! I agreed that the EGA Version is the one to go for :)
Yeah these classic rereleases really don't do much, unless you use SCUMM VM to get rid of the atrocious scaling, fix graphics modes and sound settings.
I guess sourcing the proper files is fair game if i already bought these games physical on disks and then again in digital (albeit borked) form.

Anyone knows where to find the EGA Files right now?

still works in 2022! bless you for these instructions, seriously, thank you so much. first time playing and I love the look of the EGA art so much more for this game but new to running retro games in general. was also wildly frustrated that this steam port I bought would only run in a TINY window and had no options to change that. This version fixed everything.

I followed your steps, but i am really bad at computers, so im not sure i did the right thing because even though i was able to run the game, it asked me to choose the difficulty, which i thought would only be a thing on the cd rom version

Does it have to be ScummVM? Or can DOSBox work as well?
