Slayers experienced the nerf hammer early in 2013, becoming one of the worst classes for both PvP and PvE back then. Sorcerer was by far the top DPS class and had the best burst potential for PvP.
Warrior was a good PvP option and was being buffed even more when I quit.
Also, Warriors were a better option for some endgame dungeons than Lancers.
The complete Tier List from that time was:

Not sure where to place Gunner just yet, but from how mine's rolling, I'd say it's at least equal to Reapers and Sorcs, with potential to do as much as a Slayer, Zerker.
The good Warrior Tanks are a force to be reckoned with when it comes to holding aggro. The issue is finding the good warrior tanks.
But yeah, a hybrid class doesn't pack as much punch as a dedicated class.
EDIT: Changed from DPS to pure damage.
Even back then, Zerks had a lot of damage, but their lack of mobility and survivability made them a weak class for some endgame content with enemies throwing a lot of dangerous stuff in AoEs and such things.
So, the Zerks had a lot of damage but not a lot of ways to deliver it. They have buffed the Zerks on these aspects or you guys are just talking about pure damage?
I've edited my above post, as I'm talking about straight damage, not generally accepted standings for DPS.
They can now block cancel their Leap.
They are also getting a "charge forward" skill like lancers, warriors and slayers soon, when we get Berserker Tank patch. However, I don't know if they can only use that in their own d-stance or if they can also using it normally.
