Slayer is a leather armor wearing class, while the berserker wears heavy armor. The berserker can block while the slayer needs to dodge, but the berserker also has a slower pace compared to the slayer. They're both damage dealers.
My advice would be for you to try out the different classes and decide yourself. Usually that's the best way to find a class you enjoy playing! :)
Berserker is really good in PvE, kinda tanky when fighting BAMs cause Berserkers can block infinitely (eat your heart out Lancer!). Berserker is also an extremely bursty DPS, mainly because most attacks can be charged which strengthens the attack, and then overcharged (which costs HP). when combined with buffs, you can see some crazy insane high crits. NOTE: as far as i know, Berserker is the only class that can charge attacks (i might be wrong so dont quote me).
Warrior is your fast hack-n-slash high mobility, sustained DPS. havent played this as much as the two above, but i know this class is more about constantly moving and attacking (pretty much both at the same time). it can queue as a tank technically, but i dont know a whole lot about its tanking abilities.
And finally, the one class that is the flashiest, the most mobile, and probably the most fun to play: Reaper. This is the newest class, and isnt immediately accessible. you need to already have a lvl 30 or so character in order to unlock it (dont remember the exact number, and this may have changed since the last time i played). This class doesnt start at lvl 1, i believe it starts at 50. it starts in a unique area specific to its class, where you basically have a fast track to about 58, then you get to join the rest of the world. this class is DPS like the above classes. This class is pretty powerful in PvE, due to the high mobility and some really good AOE attacks. NOTE: this class is race locked to the Elins (for story reasons) so most might be turned off by it.
That is about all I know, havent really played any of the other classes. I also dont know much about the PvP side of the classes either.
Sorry for the essay length response and i hope i was a bit of a help.
Lancer has a limited block so you have to know exactly when to use your blocks, they also really aren't that fun until there mid 20's.
Warrior is really fun a dps, the tank counterpart though isn't a durriable as the Lancer since they must rely heavily on evading attacks because of there unability to block.
Slayers I don't really know much about but there evasion tactic is similar to that of a warrior and they use 2H GS instead of DW Swords I have been in parties with them they do seem to die a lot verse certain mobs they're more for pvp.
I'd recommend Berserker if you're new to action combat MMORPGs and tera in general. Don't have to wait too long to get most of your kit. Will always do high bursty damage. Don't have to worry about tanking and block is more forgiving on timing than dodges. If you don't like it by level 40 you can ditch it and roll a reaper which has a nice playstyle contrast with zerker.
Warrior if you're used to action combat and don't mind waiting to near endgame for most of your toolkit. Its the only hybrid class in the game, as in able to do more than 1 role in group combat. Can block in tank stance, and has a large variety of dodges. Popular class with good reason.
TERA endgame is pretty easy to get into, so don't be afraid to try out all classes that tickle your fancy. Its hard to dislike any of them.
Ps, if you liked God of war. you will love that class. like his little sis, running around
Elin make me feel like a pedophile.
Thanks
heavy meaning weighty attacks your choices are Berserker or Slayer (Berserker wields a giant axe and wears heavy armor, Slayer wields a giant sword and wears medium armor)
as for decent movement, Slayer has a roll, which requires timing to be effective.
as for being good at PvE, that is mostly reliant on your skill.
i recommend trying out Slayer first. in the end though, you can always try out all the various classes, and see for yourself which one you like the most.
Slayer is freaking awesome. Nuff said. However between that and a Berserker it would depend if you want to smash buttons or charge most of your attacks.
The Lancer's I've grouped with seem to kick Zerkers because of gear. It has happened so much on my Zerker the only instances I have done are guild runs, and those are far and few between even server pug groups the lancer refuses to take a zerker.
Level up them all to 20 then see which one suits you the best.
Slayers: leather armor not so mobile semi-slow paced class with high burst with good rng. The desyc issues really hurt this class so its not really popular in pvp.
Warriors: Let me tell you this, a good warrior out DPSes ALL the other classes. Don't listen to people saying warrior is a bad DPS class as a good warrior does WAY more than other classes to even compare. And warriors are NOT evasive tanks warriors have 2 stances one being offense stance for DPS thats gives you the skill reaping slash and the other Defense stance that provides you with a block that you use for tanking. A skilled warrior tank holds aggro way better than a skilled lancer. They are the hardest class to master in-game thus having the highest difficulty rating while choosing a class.
Berseker: The 2nd hardest hitters in game after sorcerers they have a good place at DPS but really rng based. If you don't crit on these guys you're literally useless. They are the least mobile class and have a single iframe. The zerker DPS combo is basically 4 skills and you have an infinite block so they are easy to play.
Lancer: the pure tank class. Dont do much dps but are really good in group PvP and are fairly easy because of the block and natural tankiness.
This is the best advice. All of the classes have a distinct feel, and the only way to be sure is to try each one and see what fits to your personality and playstyle. I couldn't imagine playing as anything other than a warrior. Which is strange for me to say, because usually those are the dullest class in most games; however, in Tera, it's highly agile and I just enjoy the fighting techniques.
