TERA

TERA

Is TERA gpu or cpu intensive?
I'm thinking about upgrading my graphics card or my cpu, but I want to know is TERA more gpu or cpu intensive?

Tera is very cpu intensive. You need a good intel Processor if you wanna run the game good, I do not recommend AMD CPU's due to their lower per core performance which makes them real bad on Tera (I know from experience). I compared my AMD FX-8310 Eight core processor overclocked to 4.0GHZ a core to my Four core i7 4770 at stock 3.4GHZ speed. The i7 4770 performed twice as good and for the most part Tera runs pretty smooth on it. Pretty much unplayable on the AMD in raids. My i7 will dip below into the 20-40 FPS range during RAIDS, battleground and dreamstorm. I get about 60-80 outside of towns. The game is poorly optimized even the best CPU's can barely get above 40 FPS during RAIDS/battlegrounds and Dreamstorms. It may benefit you as well to disable core parking like i did so that all cores run at their optimal speed. So yeah tera also won't benefit from 6 or 8 core processors. So stick with any good Quad core. Skylake, Haswell, Devil's Canyon etc.

I play the game at preset 6. It wouldn't really surprise me if your processor runs better because it is an i5 with no hyperthreading. This game does not utilize the hyperthreading of i7 processors very well and ends up making it run worse. I should probably try disabling it to see if I get any improvements on my fps. As for the op he may want to get a i5 processor, I recommend looking up Tera Benchmarks on youtube and see who's runs the smoothest in the most crowded areas. I have read a lot on tera forums that generally speaking i5 processors usually perform the best.

i play with AMD 2 core 4ghz full Spec , and Nvidia 750 Ti 4 gig and a 730 2 gig ,, 50 fps all the time np at all . core is only good for multi task , if u run more than 76 + program in same time on your pc (checking net ,utube, teamspeack etc ), dont wonder why u going for a 4 , 6 core etc

Who needs a game with fps higher to 60? 60 is like what the max for your brain is, higher than that isn´t that smooth.

Older AMD CPU's may have issues, but the newer ones have no problems. I am running the FX-8370 and am getting 60FPS Minimum on Max settings, with Maximum of 140FPS and an average of 75 FPS on a 75Hz monitor @1080p. My FX-8370 Black Edition is Overclocked to 5.0 GHz on all 8 physical cores running 16GB of 2600MHz DDR3 AMD R9 Ram and a Sapphire Nitro TriXX R9 390 GPU Overclocked to 1100MHZ on the Core and 6200MHz on the Memory.

neither .... i have i7 4790k and I'm only having less than 40% cpu usage and I have gtx 970 sli both cards runs below 30% usage ... disabling sli doesn't do anything either .. i'm having less than 50 fps no matter what settings I use ............. sooo this game optimization is garb

your kidding right 60 is good if you have a 60hz monitor but having unlimited fps is better and you can only see how many frames you can see lets say we see in 24fps that is very bad for driving so 60 and up is smooth

The game is poorly optimized so even with a good computer you'll still see problems. Most of the time its not a hardware issue its an issue with the optimization of the game as its not uncommon to get memory loss error game crashes.

Actually, most CTDs you get with Tera are just lag/disconnects, because the devs were so incapable that they couldn't even manage to make it reconnect in these cases.
Yet it is perfectly capable of keeping said connection token if you go to the server selection which is the login screen in 'normal' mmos.
Select your server again and bam, the game logs you in again, but they were incapable of utilizing that in case of a disconnect so just went "ah let's just CTD".
