The mystery of Snapdragon Gems
I feel like there is more to the snapdragon gems than we know.
If you don't know what they are, they are these ovoid egg looking grey things found in the plants that try to eat you (Snapdragons), one of the live forms (?) you have to get for MOM to complete the Data Bank.
Even MOM is confused by them.

Data Bank description:

Oh this is... I really don't know. My scans are just refflecting off it.
It could be a seed, or an egg or some kind of gem...
Well done, BUD, great find.

The logical assumption would be that they are used to lure the prey, but I'm really hoping there is more to it, so I started investigating.
There is plenty of artwork posters on the mothership, one of them is a picture of a weird dinosaur-like thing with a long neck, probably a creature from an earlier version of the game.
Maybe it's an egg of one of these creatures? but what would cause it to hatch?

Things I tried:

Experiment: Dropping the gem from height
Result: The gem either bounces off, or goes through the terrain due to problems with collision. Nothing interesting here.

Experiment: Placing the gem in water
Result: The gem floats beneath the surface. Motionless.

Experiment: Placing the gem next to different animals.
Result: no reaction from any of the animals. I was hoping for one of the Warbles to do something, but that was not the case.

Experiment: Putting the gem in one of the launching flowers (with green goop).
Result: It's launched like any other item. Then it falls down, like any other item. Can't fool gravity.

Experiment: Floating the gem in an anti-gravity flower.
Result: It floats like any other item. Nothing interesting.

Experiment: Bringing the gem home.
Result. Nothing at all. MOM is not amused.

Anything else we could try?
(Developers, if there is nothing to the Snapdragon gem, treat this thread as a giant "wink, wink, nudge, nudge".)

I am also curious about this. It would be amazing if there were a way to get it to hatch or grow.

I agree... when I got my first egg/gem/whatever it is, I thought what does this do??? And I also tried most the things you did. I think they should make it do something.

maybe if you put the gem in another snapdragon, a different one than the one you found it in.
