Automaton and apprentice Qs
Just finished my first game. Ready to crank up the difficulty from easy for a real test. I think I have a fair handle on how things work, but a couple issues cropped up.

I deactivated an automaton, but did not receive the salvaged steam core. Is this a known bug? Or did I get shafted?

I was not expecting such a short game. At what point do the apprentices make their presence known? How can I tell?

Thanks in advance for every reply.

You should have got the steam core, that's weird, but a functionning automaton is better than a steam core in most cases.

medical apprentice increase efficiency of 3 medical buildings for each full shelter, same for engineer apprentices with workshop, you should be able to see an effciency boost if you hover the mouse over the yellow efficiency bar. The shelter has to be heated.
In A New Home, scouting the Steel Bridge will reveal a single automaton that you can either disassemble for raw resources or send it to New London to join the workforce. Disassembling it at the bridge will reward you with a hundred wood, a hundred steel, fifty coal, and an additional steam core making it two steam cores in total instead of the standard one when disassembled elsewhere.

Children from Child Shelters will help at medical facilities between the hours of 11:00 and 18:00, raising their efficiency depending on the amount of children in shelters. Up to 30%.
Or
The bonus works between the hours of 11:00 and 18:00 to provide extra efficiency to Workshops, as reflected on the tooltip at the top of the Workshop's building panel.

1 full (15 children) Child Shelter can provide the maximum bonus of 20% research speed for one Workshop (tested on Hard difficulty; this may vary such as covering multiple workshops on other difficulties). The bonus stacks multiplicatively with the shrine or agitator bonus for a total of 144% efficiency. Assignment of shelters to workshops is automatic. Extra shelter coverage adds extra workshops; you cannot stack multiple shelters onto one workshop.

That is indeed a bug that I also sometimes encounter.
Maybe similar to a "stuck person" bug, except applying to an automaton, which prevents it from being disassembled?
