Survivor mode for first itme playthrough going in blind
Am I crazy trying this? Just got game on 85% sale and been wanting to play it for years, I love games being ridiculously difficult so up for the challenge!

Yep you're crazy. People often find the game hard enough on normal difficulty for their first playthrough and gradually make their way toward higher difficulties after playing each scenarios a few times, at least once. Their is a learning curve for the techs and laws you should prioritize.

Survivor mode is extreme difficulty + no active pause + no savegame (just autosave if you exit the game).

But you do you, you may have your fun that way.
Up to you. I never really enjoyed Survival mode, it's identical to Extreme, just adds the annoyance of no pause or saves. If you can figure things out on Extreme the same approach will work on Survival. You just can work out your strategy with pause and reloads rather than replaying the same scenario 100 times.
I mean. It can't go worse than it did for me the first time I played the game.

I didn't even know why Infirmaries are awesome and i left that City alone. I also played on Order. By the end of the game, I literally had a legit reason to use the Triage skill. A skill so bad that only complete incompitence requires it.

I also may have been having the generator on level 4 for most of the game, never bothered with flying hunters, never used wall drills, upgraded automatons and never upgraded peoples homes to houses until the end boss.
Awesome experience however. When you gone despotic for legit survival, been threaten to be thrown out, manage to back people down, only to get them just as angry again and then being at the complete mercy of the game timer. Never want to trade it away.

Why asking?
Only you is you.
Try and see for yourself :)
FYI. On Winter Survivor level it is possible to pause the game play by going to the building activation or the settlement management screen. The same goes for The Last Autumn and the construction parts reference screen.
