Fall of winter home Engineers
Hello. I would like to ask players here who has encountered those engineers in FOW. I am talking about the engineers our scouts will find doing some exploration. Not the weathermen. I ended up sending them to my city to help man my little tent hospitals and engineer tower. But I was wondering what would happen if I just left them for awhile. It did gave me an option to leave them so they can continue their "exploration". Now I feel like I lost an important place that they might have discovered for me to explore. Did I miss alot where I need to restart the game?

As far as I know, if your evacuation does not go well and you leave the weathermen on duty until around day 23-25, your scouts will tell you they have found the Trail South which is a searchable spot next to the Weather Shelter and may lead to another unconfirmed city. You can tell your scout to simply get the resources (around 200 wood and 200 steel) and return to Winterhome, or send your scout to go along the Trail South. The 5 scouts will then leave to explore and leave the scenario.

I have no solid statistical data to tell whether the evacuation goes well or goes south. My experience is that if the Dreadnought does not have 250 people by day 23-25, the evacuation is deemed not going well.

The results of the exploration is never revealed in the FOW scenario, but it is alluded that one of the five scouts reached New London in the end, triggering the Londoner event. But since in ANH you can avoid this event totally, the likely results are either one dying scout reaches New London , or all of them perish along the way. So basically, the Southern Trail spot is simply an Easter egg; If you want to get it, let the evacuation fail and you will get the Southern Trail.

The three locations you can make a call to leave people at:

IF you send that auto to the city you lose assess to all outposts past that bridge. This means a steel outpost. Without this steel outpost it is not possible to get perfect dreadknough. You can still win without it but you will not save the max possible people which is 500.

The weathermen location you lose nothing but the weather reports.

Storm shelter if left by sending scouts back day 25 you discover a new city. This allows you to calm your people by giving hope but you can control your people in other ways such as lieing to them (this also fixes the lie if done). The value of the eng are greater than the value of calming your people after day 25 thou. You dont get resources if you leave them there. You either take the 20 eng or leave them there to take them on day 25 or later when you go back. Note you can just go there in the first place after day 25 to the same result.

I made a mistake. It is the Storm Shelter, the further one not the Weather Station. Just mix up the name of the two engineer spots.

Thanks Guys! Now I do feel like restarting. I feel like those engineers doing exploration would give a complete feel of the FOW scenario. Its like a happy ending feeling which is good. Thank you guys again!

I have another question. Theres another trailer that the engineers will find. It will give you the option to 1.safely take items 2.Risk it and take everything you can 3.Leave the trailer alone and decide what to do later.

Has anyone left it alone and actually find it useful later on?

Not really, I always pick 1 steam core and leave. As far as I know you really get nothing by leaving the trailer alone. BTW, if you find all the locations, including the trailer, there are always enough steam cores for 5 decks of the dreadnought, even if you pick only 1 steam core and leave the automaton working.

You get nothing if you leave other than no chance for the scouts to die. Its the same as tesla city or the bears. It is good to pick thou as it allows you to save than take everything in case you fail assuming not playing survivor.
