And gathering posts help gathering by providing warmth and I think speed bonuses
The gathering post allows you to gather faster with fewer people plus it gives a +1 to heat over gathering from a pile directly and you get the heater option on them once you research heaters. When you place it, you will see a shaded circle around it, that is the gather area. Make sure whatever you want the workers in it to gather is in the shaded area (ie. individual resource piles or the front area of the coal thumpers where the coal piles up). If you have multiple resources piles in the shaded area the workers will gather from all the piles.
The depots will be needed in the late game to stock ressources before the storm. They dont require heat. You can place them far to not take heated space.
