Rotating buildings.
I would have never known you could rotate buildings during construction if it wasn't for seeing someone else do it in a video. I can't find anything in the game or even the keybindings about rotating buildings. It appears to be middle mouse click by default though. Maybe everyone already knows this but I sure as hell didn't and it's exciting!

I didnt know either. I didnt even know you could rotate the city around the generator until 60+hours into the game.

i didn't know either! i learnt it by chance from another thread on here, it doesn't do much functionally afaik (aside from allowing coal thumpers and their gathering posts to be placed a bit more pleasingly) but it can be nice for aesthetics

With Q and E, you can rotate the camera. I think that's what "rotating the city" means.

I tried every key I could think of to rotate a building, nothing worked so I assumed it couldn't be done (which I cursed a bit at because it seemed stupid that you couldn't). Then I saw SkyStorm rotating buildings so I was really confused!

Tried all kinds of keys/buttons again, still no luck. THEN I realized I needed to turn on a setting on my mouse software to make that work...:steamfacepalm:!

This times one thousand! How on earth did they not include that in the instructions or anything, anywhere? Good lord, it's game changing, and after 100hrs, it's astounding the instructions and information about the game are so vague, and undecipherable. Why you would insist on making a game so difficult to approach. How is the most pivotal piece of equipment is not a hot key, the generator, the whole purpose of the game, does not have a dedicated bound link. What where they thinking with this, it's like they purposefully made this game incredibly difficult, on all fronts. All these hours are lost now, beacuse I now know buildings turn. OH! You CAN make the thumper produce towards the heat !!?! Sheesh. Wish I'd known that hours, and hours, and hours, and hours ago. How is the patients list not bound out to something? I could go on, and on... wake up devs...

My mouse software had a setting to automatically override assigned mouse functions to whatever functions the game software had. It was unchecked, meaning it didn't implement any game specific keybinds on the mouse automatically (ie. actions assigned to the middle button or the 4, 5 and beyond buttons). Since I typically use keyboard binds and only the left/right mouse buttons I'd been using it that way for years with no issue. I wonder how many useful actions I've missed in other games over the years.

I have a different mouse now, an actual gaming mouse, with different software and it doesn't have that checkbox.

I think this was the only time I've every really gotten angry at the game. After I saw SkyStorm rotating buildings and googled that it was the middle mouse button and I sat there clicking that mouse button over and over trying to figure out why my building wouldn't rotate...I was cursing pretty heavily! Of course, after I opened my mouse software, saw that click box, clicked it and it worked, I was cursing even more...this time at Logitech!

It's more than aesthetics imo, for the longer buildings to be able to fit sideways sometimes makes it easier to fill in areas and keep the city more compact, depends on the scenario though I guess.

I had no idea you can build other buildings in this game. I played for over 120 Hours staring at my generator and collecting coal.

After watching the famous Youtuber: aTbEsTsLiGhTlYaBoVeaVeRaGeIQ i saw he could build stuff.

yeah, i realized that a while after posting that - tried rotating a church, and it fitted into my residential rows very nicely. it is, in fact, a pretty useful feature!
