I assume you chose the sustain life law (because you're a good guy) which means, very sick people take 1 spot in the medical post until you build a care house or infirmaries/house of healing and then your medical posts cant heal regular sick people.
I suggest you load an earlier save and either heal faster (research tech) or heat more (chily still gives a fair amount of chance for sickness). If you think you're going to be too slow again, you may take radical treatment instead with a chance to get amputees (who you can deal with later)
"the most you can do is keep them alive indefinitely via sustain life"
to heal very sick people you need either a house of healing "faith exclusive building" or an infirmary "Needs to be researched and requires 1 steam core"
i'd just start over tbh so you can address the problem before it spirals out of control. be careful the first time temperature drops, you often get a spike in sick people from that that's easy to overlook.
if you want to continue the current game get a care house asap so the very sick won't hog beds.
Also, when you look at the notifications at the bottom, the illness notification has 2 numbers right now. The top number is the total number of untreated sick people, whereas the bottom number is how many of those untreated sick are gravely ill. (Similarly, the indicator for hungry people has a second number that shows how many are starving)
Gravely ill happens when someone who is sick stays untreated for too long, or when people work or sleep in Very Cold (heat -5) conditions (except for Hunter's Hut and its upgrade, Hunter's Hangar, which don't care in the slightest what temperature it is, so you should move them away from the generator)
