Do I have to care temperature for automaton?
It seems heater doesn't turned off automatically despite there are no people working in place but automaton. I think it shouldn't be a matter since it was working out there in frost waste alone at first place. So is this just oversight or do I have to turn heater on for it??

automatons don't care about heat.

the heater _should_ go off when there are no people there i think, but i also don't think it always does. unless you are super tight on coal i would just leave it on.

No you dont need heat for automatons.

But they still need to recharge so you cant have your generator turned completely off.

Also, some facilities require a minimum heat even if you use an automaton: hothouses, cookhouses, all medical facilities.

Related note: hunters dont need heat either because they are not in the building (except during storms, you should empty the building during storms)

workshop > wall drill > coal > the rest.

also 2 lvl 3 walldrills + automatons can support 5 charcoal kilns + automatons, nice for when you don't need wood for construction/research anymore.

I would say workshop as well if the engineer automatons tech is researched.
Or walldrill because it's usually a lonely building not worth using a steam hub and you usuamly dont need the 3rd level if you have an automaton on it.
But for a lot of scenario steel is the bottleneck so that would be the best choice.
When I got enough automatons I lile using them on thumper + gathering posts + the thumper pile because no worker could gather it at that temperature.
24h hothouse is nice though....

steel buildings don't require steam cores and fairly low tier research, so they usually end up upgraded early on.

True but you never get enough steel for upgrade and automatons or for the objective in winterhome where you need level 3 steel + the outpost to get enough. While you have unlimited coal with more thumpers and automatons.

I always put it in the coal gathering spot. Coal is life

On top of not needing the heaters of a building with a robot on it, you can also turn off any steam hubs that would only be there to keep buildings they are working on warm, because the robots can (for some reason) still use them to recharge even when turned off.
Which helps save on even more coal.
