Help with The Refugees
Hey guys,

So I'm still a noob, but with each play through I'm getting better and better. Right now I'm trying to save everyone including the lords. One of the issues is, I think, my mid to late game. Beginning starts fine, but then quickly goes south. I know my first issue so far is that I'm not building enough housing and even not getting to houses quick enough. I'm sure I have many issues with my city, so any pointers would be good.

Thanks!

Here are some screenshots.

One thing i would do was stockpile resources prior to the points before the lords coming. that way i could easily upgrade houses or build more quickly. Trying to prioritize Iron helps a bit, making those upgraded houses easier

Make sure to take doctors out of the medical bays when not in use (not all of them), but no need for 15 doctors when there's only 3 patients. This takes some micro management, but can be very beneficial.

Although resource piles are ok for coal so long as you have yet to invest in any heating techs the piles for wood and metal are a trap. They look like a great and easy way to get the stuff but you can never gather it in fast enough.
Sawmill and Steelworks should be two of your first things you get.
Only go for the wood and steel piles if their in the way of buildings or you have the extra manpower, and when you do give them a gathering post to do it with if you have the resources spare.

As to the lords, if you are having trouble making houses for them. You could always kick 'em out. It doesn't fail the game (though you might feel bad about it afterwards).

To laws, I have no idea what you picked so I can just recommend some I've found helpful and why.
Overcrowding. Medical posts can fit 10 people and infirmaries 20! On a map with limited space being able to cram 2x the number of people into these places is a godsend (more than it normally is).
Child Shelters. I know it is possible to fit houses for all people (including the lords) and make enough of these for all children along with everything else a city needs. Wasn't much room left afterwards, but it can be done.
This leads to Medic Apprentices. Anything that can stop sick people from being sick sooner is a good thing.
The chances of people getting ill from sawdust meals is based on the difficulty level of the game. If playing in easy or medium it's a safe bet that will be better than soup more often than not. If playing above medium then soup is the better option as the chance of people getting sick is now far higher.

Sorry for the late reply. Fantastic thank you for the help! I see I had no idea it was better to quickly tech up for the gathering buildings rather than waiting for the piles. Also, do you usually house all of the children? Or only a certain percentage?

I see. Yeah, I think I was most successful when I did that. Which makes sense.

While, as far as I know, you don't need to house all of them to get the Apprentices bonus (though please don't quote me on that), if you don't house all of them anyway you don't get the fair sized hope bonus that comes along with housing all of them.

I see. I just did another playthrough and it went better. I was able to house all of the lords no problem, however I lost due to class conflict. Hope was fine, however discontent was pretty bad. Most of it was due to broken promises and the biggest one was the sick lords. If I had healed all of the sick lords then I think I would've had a better shot. How do you deal with the sick? I made hospitals (4 of them) and had two uh... my games in German but the level 1 sanitation station. I made sure to get the children to help the doctors option in the tree.

I also noticed another issue with my playthrough is that I should get through the order tree faster so that I can use the abilities more frequently. I think that's another problem that I didn't think through.

Tip: Housing is not really that important. Try to always have around 60 homeless, that way you save the wood and the land that you would spend on those homeless.

Another 'soft' resource is discontent. People should be almost fully discontented the entire time otherwise you're doing something wrong.

I see. Though any suggestions as to quickly getting discontent below 25% to achieve the class conflict objective?

Edit: Just played through and completed everything! Was pretty difficult, but I managed. Thanks for the help guys!
