Why is the coal icon red??

If the coal icon at the top of the screen is flashing red this normally means you are loosing more coal than you are gaining in a day and/or are just very low on the stuff.

If you want to know if it's the first of the two just click the menu icon at the bottom of the screen that looks like a pie chart. The rest is just red/green bars and math.

that's a great analysis but sadly its green in the chart but still flashes

Never noticed that in 200+ hours of game.
Probably as said amanoob because you are loosing more coal than you produce (could happen if you have coal thumper not producing enough and gathering posts collecting too much), maybe because it's only less than a day of reserve.
