Transport Hub

Just bought the game yesterday. I have had my share of issue (obviously); but I seem to have mastered the basics.

I got to the point where I have to build a transport hub to make a trade depot with a neighboring settlement. I can't place it on the map at all. Even in a location with roads; connected to the central hub, it tells me invalid placement.

Am I doing something wrong?

This is for the On The Edge scenario? There's a specific spot, between the center of your base and the ledge, where you place this building. Only that spot is valid, and the area should be highlighted in green when you attempt to build it.

No. Endless builder mode. I sent scouts to three different settlements and part of the way to complete the challenge is to construct a Transport hub, hire a construction crew then build a trade depot at the different ones.... Can't do it... maybe there is a specific spot there too.

[General Idea]

There should be one particular location on your city map to place your Transport Hub (highlighted in green). Go to the build menu and activate the construction for the Transport Hub and then mouse around the map until you have found the only location available. Once you have built it then you'll need 10 spare workers to operate as the construction crew (similar to an outpost team) that you can then send to the other settlement to set up the trade depot. Once in place you'll be able to trade with the settlement using the Administration Building that there should only be one location for.

And yes, I found it. Why do they do that I wonder? Why not be able to place it anywhere? What does it serve having it in just THAT spot, when they could limit it to one on the map, like they do with the cemetery.

I know what you mean. It's fixed to one location and so is the Administration Building in the scenario 'On the Edge'. Normally you can shrink the footprint of a building to its minimum but you cannot with those, they are set in place with no room for manoeuvre.
