Do I need Expansions?
I'm not usually good at games like this or civilization, and yet I have hundreds of hours in them. Not sure if I will like this game or not, but in case I DO like it. Should I buy the xpac's now while they are on sale, or wait?

I've seen posts saying at least one of them could be considered a waste of money?

They're not going anywhere, you can try the base scenarios first, and then try the DLC scenarios later. They don't affect each other, you don't get more content in the original scenarios by having the DLC ones.

The season pass plus base game bought at diff times vs the game of the year (all as one) is comparable in price in fact not buying all at once has been cheaper in many cases so no you shouldent buy all at once unless you are going to play everything back to back for sure.

There is no inpact added to the old stuff by the new the new stuff only unlocks endless changes and it’s own scenario. So you can add when you want to play.

The Expansions add more content, more scenarios, more endless mode utilization so they do enhance the game quite a lot. This is a survival game with city building under it so have that in mind when you start playing. It is unlike other city builders you played before but once you get the grips of the mechanics you will enjoy it I think.

I suggest getting the main game.
The price of the goty will scale if you decide to buy it later.
In my opinion, The last autumn is very good, the rifts is optional, on the edge is barely ok.

IMO the expansions are well worth it, especially if you wait for a sale. Some are better than others but they add significantly to the game and in Endless mode you can experience some of all of them at the same time. In campaign mode they're mostly separate but there's more of a story to experience.
