It seems like the first death from overwork is an inevitable event. It does not seem to count towards the achievement though.

As for further deaths, if you use a buildings emergency shift too often without a couple days break. Between them, the casualties begin the grow.

My advice? Keep a mental note of what buildings have been overworked recently. Just leave those alone for 2-3 days after the cooldown finishes.

Sometimes I have 4 work shops and I change day by day. 1st day no.1 with 24h, 2nd day no.2, and so on. I also think that it is related to the temperature. If it is orange or red, there are no / fewer problems. With blue, one can die even after 5 hours.
And of cause: If you get the message that they want a break, you should do that. Otherwise there is a great chance that someone dies.

If you using child overwork, the chance of death is much higher comparison to worker.

Heres an idea, just use extended shifts

Without random deaths overwork would be terribly overpowered. Make automatons almost useless.

I think this thing only happen once through out the game.

I have noticed that if I use the ovverwork once I am fine. If I use it on 2 facilities at once then there is a casualty. Only tried it a few times, but that has been my experience. I mostly just stick with extended shifts after using the overwork once at the start to get research moving along.

I had one death from extended shifts, which blew the achievement for me in New Home. It was a coal mine and it was shortly after they complained about the long shifts. I've run engineers on extended shifts, ignoring their demands to shorten them, for entire scenarios and not had a death. So I'm not sure if this was just bad luck with RNG, if mining is different from engineering with extended shift work causing deaths, if refusing to accept the demand for shorter shifts gives a small chance of death (again, not experienced with engineers but the plural of anecdote != data), if extended shifts act differently in New Home than in Arks or Refugees, etc.

IIRC you can't even use extended shifts at all if you want the golden path achievement, regardless of whether it causes a death or not.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind when I go for that one. Although at this point I'm just trying to get The Savior and nothing I had read had indicated you could lose someone to extended shifts. My cemetery that play through had exactly one body in it.

I have finally figured out how to avoid any deaths due to overwork. Put them off the work for a couple of hours when 24 hours shift is on. Like if im doing 24 hours i let them rest from 12-3/4/5 its like an 20 hour work shift instead of 24

Yes it’s been know for awhile

It’s not just resting a couple hours thou it’s the script that kills them looks at 2 hours after the shift is triggered till at most 6 hours after it was triggered that at most 4 hour window(least for the first death). As such so long as no workers they don’t die. Removing them at 12 won’t help you unless that time matches the window above as it’s not based on time of day but when the shift was triggered. Also when used on resource piles won’t kill due to overwork.

You can agrue that’s an expoilt. Comes down to how you view it as the devs never called it one. To me it’s not as your giving them a break which prevents overwork.

It’s not needed to be done thou to win without deaths on the highest settings.

As for the missinfo about golden path you most def can use extended shifts when doing golden path. I used it on myn. So long as there is no death. There is no perk in the adaption tree that kills golden path just for taking only increases the liklyhood of failing it. Eg 24 hour shifts can fail it if they cause a death. Radical treatment can fail it if it causes an amp and you don’t sign prosthetics quick enough. It’s the faith and order trees your limited in only. Even child labor people often claim you can’t use outright untrue as used for myn.

More like the idea of overwork kills them not the overworking itself.
