Do people get sick when outside buildings?
This is something that's been bothering me for a while.

Since our citizens are actual NPCs in the game, and actually have to reach their destinations to get things done i've always wondered if having a sawmill on the edge of the city is not the smartest idea when my workers have to walk there through like... 100 meters of freezing cold.

Maybe i should be heating up the roads too?

No the devs have confirmed only workplace and home temp matters note when building that is there work site so it counts but to a lesser degree.

So eg when in a fighting arena dosent matter if its heated as not home or work just like the paths to buildings don’t matter. You also don’t lose productivity from long roads they will leave early to always start on time each day.

Basicly if the building has a heater it’s heat level matters unless it’s a home as home temp dose matter any other building temp dose not matter for eg temple dosent need to be heater or hunter huts.

When homeless the gen temp level is what is used eg if at gen heat lvl 0 it’s outdoor temp at gen heat level 1 its 10 degrees over outdoor temp. This means yes there are cases where homeless people can be warmer than those with homes.

I'm not entirely sure that's true dude...

I remember asking this question over a year ago, and people were clammering that yes, travel time and travel temperatures matter.

Ever since then I started placing a few hot spots along long roads leading to desolate work places when the cold gets really low, and I've seen a significant drop in the amount of sick I'll get.

As said it’s been confirmed by the devs you can search by all the old posts and find the comment if you want matters not to me if you believe my comment or not. You can also contact there support to get a answer that was how people have done it in the past. A quick google has one example of someone doing that thou in his case he dosent screen the convo https://steamcommunity.com/app/323190/discussions/0/1729828401672424853/ so not as good as the old answer on the fourms but as said I’m not going to bother looking by all the old posts for it.

Even a year ago this was known the devs statment was about a month after the game was officially released so about 2 years ago. So those that where claimoring If it really was a year ago was either uninformed or never bother to test it.

A simple test even proves it.

Make all homes and workplaces red. Leave 10 workers not working. Heat two locations to red at other ends of the map. Start to build a gathering post in one location as soon as they start building pause. Drop a new post in the other heated location and cancel that one forcing them to travel by the cold. Do this back and forth for 10 hours (one full work shift best to start at 8 and end at 8 so that no other worker travels at this time. As everything is red you will get no sick people other than event releated.

If this was done in -70 or lower ( freezing temp) keeping them traveling in this level of cold would cause at min one amp 3-4 gav Ill and the rest sick over 10 hours when done on extreme due to the chance of a amp and vary high chance at sick, if traveling was counted. As you don’t get any sick we know the devs statment is true and has been confirmed by simple tests from the players a number of times.

You getting less sick placing steam hubs on paths or not is likly confirmation bias. In games you do that you are likly paying more attention than seeing less sick due to paying more attention introducing bias while using what you think should be the result (heating paths reducing sick) and believing that was what caused it vs what really reduced it.
