B: You're mistaken. You can definitely build the generator without rushed construction with little or no fatalities.
Edit - Typo
Edit 2 -
To elaborate a little further, on my first try at endless builder I put up the generator somewhere around day 25-30. I had exactly 4 fatalities. The first was the House of Healing wise man scripted event. The other 3 where people that got stuck going to bury him. I had around 20 amputees due to frostbite in the first cold snap. On the second cold snap, I had insulated houses and while I had lots of sick people, I had no further amputations.
No you dont need to rush the gen to make it without deaths
It takes 3 storm cycles to make the gen without rushing
You dont get deaths that cant be prevented without rushing till the 4th storm. In other words not only is it possible to do before deaths you have an entire extra storm to do so. Also the 3 storm cycle quote is already quite a bit of leeway in real fact its closer to 2.5. This is all on extreme lower diffs are easier and as such quite possible to do the same.
On top as you said everyone dead not deathless which is two vary diff things the above is deathless but as you said everyone dead this changes to:
On extreme you can not build the gen EVER and not have everyone dead. In fact I like playing not building the gen at all and have constantly reached day 100 without ever making the gen furthermore rushing it. While maintaining postive pop growth to the pop limit. Yes deaths happen but you find more people than die once the deaths start resulting you staying at the pop cap.
As such no there is nothing what so ever that makes you rush the gen. Hell other than if your going for deathless there is nothing that even makes you need to build the gen at all.
While you have 4 storms before anyone dies (the 4th causes deaths) tons of extra time to not only not bother making the gen pre storm 1 to get a lead and still have quite a bit of spare time while remaining deathless to make then gen.
Also as a note to remain deathless rushing is 100% fine as with every single malfunction the gen dose all that you need it to in order to maintain deathless status. As such there is nothing stopping you from rushing if you so chose to. The only reason to try to make a perfect gen is since you want to nothing more. It is not required in the least.
