Broken Promise Warning
Could there be a warning for the breaking of promises via actions? Accidently broke a promise because of an outpost that I didn't work overtime previously and pressed overtime out of habit.

One of the things that breaks promises for me that is extremely irritating is if you try to upgrade a tent or bunkhouse; while the buliding is being upgraded it doesn't count as the new heating type and I've broken heating promises this way many times =_=

This is pretty much the concept of a deadline. It didn't finish in time. That's it.

Maybe I didn't explain it well, let me put it like this:

I fulfill the first part of the promise (warm cold houses) by turning the heating up.

Then I say to myself, well I can't maintain this level of heating because of coal issues, oh I know I'll upgrade a tent so I can turn down the heating later.

Whoops, promise broken as soon as the tent starts upgrading.

I don't see how that's the "concept of a deadline."

Agreed. I also "broke a promise" when I upgraded all tents to houses to heat all homes, and then needed to keep them heated for a few days & during those few days I thought "I should start upgrading these bunkhouses too, and upgrading apparently loses heat and therefore breaks the promise to continue providing heat to all homes. That's really dumb. I reloaded.

Agreed (Feb 5 2020).
We need a warning so I don't have to exit the game and restart a day earlier just because I clicked that.

Also, Warnings for buildings. Didn't build a carehouse because I was busy and everyone got pissed.
Honestly, the best option for cold homes is to just say you won't do anything about it, then do something about it. That promise is ridiculously easy to break, so it is better to just take the slight hit for not promising anything, rather than breaking your promise by upgrading homes.

Upgrading housing, promise broken. A temp drop for more than a split second, and you didn't crank up the gen? Promise broken.

Honestly was about to rage quit the game because of this.

I thought I was turning off a redundant steam hub. NOPE PROMISE BROKEN YOU'RE A TERRIBLE LEADER NOW THERE'S A MUTINY
That's why.. You never opt for the full promise, but just half the promise ;).
This way you can upgrade homes meanwhile having your generator running. It is a tough lesson to learn tho, and I never accept it if there's a temperature drop incoming (that's like a recipe for disaster).
boreybort Apr 1, 2020 @ 6:22am
Well, even after doing that, the temperature dropped and i failed it instantly. Didn't even have a chance to turn up the generator.

So the only way to prevent a failure is to save scum? Screw that. That's not interesting or challenging - it's bad design.

It's even worse. I've got the broken promise while all homes are heated well (orange). I don't have a clue what the problem might be, there are no homeless people. Seems to be a bug.
cerrita May 12, 2021 @ 10:02pm
I have this problem a lot. I even make sure to have spare homes of comfortable warmth prepared so no one is homeless during upgrades. Gets frustrating when I'm ready to upgrade homes but I have to wait 36 hours so I don't upset anyone. :P
I guess I get that it's technically breaking the promise because I agreed to keep 37 homes comfortable and that particular house was one of the 37, but there should be some common sense to it. No homeless people, no chilly homes? = No broken promise.

After a while you learn to NEVER promise more heat in houses or workplaces :)

I just don't bother anymore. They only ask once or twice in a run then never again. These requests are also usually several WEEKS apart. Funny enough, this doesn't pop up in extreme difficulty as far as I know, only hard and below. This makes the pop up kinda pointless other than to annoy us
