Resources - finite or infinite?
Hiho.

I am thinking of buying the game, but one thing that I care about A LOT is whether resources are finite or not. And whether thats important or not.

Example:
I hated the fact that in "Banished" you could have serious problems with iron or stone - and that those mines ran dry way too quickly imho (Though you could change that with mods)
I didn't really mind it in "Don't Starve" because it rearely mattered. There was more than enough resources for everything you could need - unless you wanted to build your own empire or something like that.
The worst was "Oxygen not Included". You could run out of resources that you needed to be able to continue to play. Thats not fun.

How is it in Frostpunk?

Would love to hear some experiences/opinions on that matter :)

Greetings

In a way, every ressources is infinite. Take this with some care, more experienced players should give you a better answer. At least, it's not a problem for me
In endless mode, resources are infinite but only after you research the appropriate buildings.
For instance a wall drill for wood gives infinite wood but you cant build that at the start. First building is the sawmill, which you can upgrade, but that consumes trees around it. Its a way to force the player to expand to get more resources which fits nicely with the game. Coal and steel mines are also infinite.

In the scenarios its a bit different. Since you have a time limit, some resources are finite, but till plentyful. Wall drills for food have a limit, but its more than enough for what can be mined in the time it takes the scenario to end. Coal mines is infinite if not mistaken but steel is finite in scenarios.

Your biggest problem in terms of resources will be steam cores. You cant build, research or buy them. You have to find them through exploration and they are really usefull for late game buildings and units. Thats part of the gameplay but dont worry. In endless mode, you keep finding them and in one scenario you can build an outpost that regularly gives you some.

In all 4 of the scenarios, Coal Mines and Steelworks produce a, practically speaking, unlimited quantity of resources. Yes, there is a finite number displayed on the building, however, it's massive. It's almost impossible to actually mine any of them out (3 for Coal Mines, 2 for Steelworks) and even if you did, there's no way you could ever consume it all. In Endless, the deposits have infinite values instead.

Wall Drills produce an unlimited amount of Wood in all scenarios and in Endless, and Coal Thumpers do the same for Coal. Both Hunters and Hothouses produce an unlimited amount of Raw Food, but the rates are somewhat limited to force you to build more of them. And during Storms, both of them will be inoperative, requiring you to stockpile ahead of time to make it through the Storm.

The only truly limited resource is your access to Steam Cores. In the "A New Home" scenario, there is an Outpost location able to create 1 of them per day, but in all other scenarios there are a finite number available through exploration and starting resources. In Endless, things are different. Each time a Storm passes, all explore locations will reset. Sometimes the "new" map generated will be filled with large caches of Coal, Wood, Steel, Raw Food, and Food Rations. Sometimes there will be little of anything close to the city, but the farther out you explore the more Steam Cores you'll find, up to like 5 at the edges of the map.

Why the hell did you reply to a thread that was more than 4 years ago o.O

Exactly,

And what does "play like its meant to be played" even mean? Endless mode is literally part of the game and was added by developers. Not to mention, question was not about THAT at all.
