You can also get your automation to do the work of building by keep one floating/unused. Just don't try to build too many and the lonely automation will be unable to keep up.
For your early building; You will need to plan what you will need the next day and queue them during the day which will ensure that they get build by your people after workshift ends.
Edit: Forget to mention one thing. Don't ever try to start a new building before workshift start because at that point workers will be starting their shift and will work on build new stuff. Which means you lose some productive time in the early morning.
